Put em away early this year...
Winter has been here for a few weeks already. Put them away in October this year which is a few weeks ahead of normal. People have been snowmobiling and ice fishing already. Even had -4 one morning.

Re: Put em away early this year...
It's a comin'. No salty roads here yet. I started a job a few weeks ago that required use of my ladder racks that are on my '72 to haul pump jack poles and 30' walkboard. The whole reason I started that one instead of others was to be sure to be done before snow. It was only a few days of work. Into the job I find out a round gable louver I needed no one stocked. Even online it was all the same, it wouldn't get here till late this week. We started getting freezing at night and in the mountains it has been snowing. After some nail biting it showed Thursday when I got home, took it inside to paint, and next day finished the job. Made it! I hope no good jobs come up over winter requiring anything too long for my trailer. I really need a newer pickup. My '95 Suburban is great to work out of but needs a ladder rack (rather not and get a pickup

Looks like you have all the bases covered in those two pics! Is that a one ton dually in the lower right? Nice! Mikey likes it.

Re: Put em away early this year...
Winter not to WV yet and I am happy about that. It got up to about 60 degrees today and I was able to put another coat on my new outside door trim. The wind was a bit of a challenge though but I did the job without any spills or drops.
If my truck was running and licensed, I guess I would get as much hauling use out of it each season as possible before "winterizing" her. I plan to block her up (to get tires off floor), turn off fuel valve, and run her until she quits. Then I guess I'd remove battery and store that away a bit better insulated but that may not be necessary with her in a garage. |

Re: Put em away early this year...
Really mild so far here. One snow in early October and a dusting two nights ago. I've been running my sprinklers when I see a couple 60 degree days in a row. Looks like I might run them again mid week. I hear the mountains don't have much snow other than the man made stuff. I know the snow/cold is coming just seems to be a little later and later each year. Stay warm

Re: Put em away early this year...
Some years the west has great winters and some years the east does. I think 2010 snow totals were killer in WV and awful out west.
2012, 2013 were great here also but last couple of years not so much. I hope this winter is great for skiing, I'd be happy with at least one named storm per month and temps down enough so the ski resorts can pile it up at night. I think I'll go ahead and buy new tire chain tensioners for my car... she is "my 4x4" in winter. ![]() |

Re: Put em away early this year...
We are having 30-40 mph gusts right now, but it's like 50 at this hour and it's a cold front. Strange weather. It is snowing in the mountains and just over the Mason-Dixon line. I'm starting to frame a fire suppression tank building tomorrow morning and supposed to be a windy day. This is for a golf course, it's built onto the west side of the cart building, and the course lies to the west. Going to be a windy mofo and much colder, first taste of that kind of weather. The walls are 2x6 12" OC 14' tall FRT lumber. Going to be fun standing those up. The kicker is, the building permit was applied for 6 months ago and just went through! I knew this county was a PIA with permits, but jeezy peezy. Did a house in '16 that took 10 1/2 months to get permit through. The home owner had a construction loan that had to be extended (for a fee) thanks to that BS.
Back to trucks. I might drive the '72 tomorrow just because I still can. I wish they would just plow snow and those who need a clear road can stay home and wait!! Mwah hah hah hah (<evil laugh)

Re: Put em away early this year...
On October 27th I went and washed and gassed up my truck and drove it into the storage garage where I keep it. That night I was starting the first of 4 12 hour night shifts in a row which would end on Halloween morning the 31st. I thought maybe later in the week I may get another ride out of it before the snow hits. NOT, it started snowing November 1st and hasn't stopped since and we are alrreasdy itno the deep freeze temps. This year its gonna be along Winter and I'm already looking forward to the Spring when I can get my buckets and console installed.

Re: Put em away early this year...
Canuckvetter, looks like quite a house you are building. Is it for yourself?
Greg, those seats turned out nice. Can you keep the snow and cold up your way for awhile yet???? Thanks. Tim, permits aren't usually too tough to get here unless it is commercial in city limits. Its mostly about them getting the permit money...

Sorry to see all these trucks put away for the winter. Even though mine hasn't been drove since Aug. I would hate I couldn't drive it until next spring. I may drive it a day are so this week if the weather stays nice. Suppose to be 60* tomorrow!!!! Hmmmmmmm sounds like a good day to drive it.

Re: Put em away early this year...
It's supposed to get almost 60 here tomorrow, but last night we had flurries and snow laying up on the mountains. Might not get a real snow for quite a while still, but just a dusting and they'll have the salty stuff down for the insecure rookies. Now that the "pre-treat" with that awful brine crap, it can get spread and it never ends up snowing. They are very anxious with that crap and I got caught in some a few years ago. Our first snow of the year was due to begin after midnight and just after noon they had that crap down.
Yeah, that's one of the biggest things that I have never liked about living where I do. I remember my X saying over many times, "Well I'm not moving somewhere just so your trucks won't rust. That's just stupid". I'd say, "Considering motor vehicles are people's second largest purchase in their lives, it's actually a very smart decision from an economic standpoint. And for me it would mean no new vehicle purchases ever".

Re: Put em away early this year...
Eric, keep that white stuff up there would ya?
![]() I drove my 72 from October through middle of February last year. The liquid rust got to it so I will probably limit the driving of it in snow or when there is no crap on the roads. They sprayed liquid rust on the bridges and low spots 2 nights last week. Your C30 looks really nice. So does the new house. Are you trying to get it enclosed before winter sets in too much?
