Steering box and rag joint questions
This came off my 71 2WD C-10. Current plan is to send it out to have it rebuilt. A couple questions per the captions in the images below, and input appreciated. Thank you.

Re: Steering box and rag joint questions
Checking some of my old notes, I think the shaft (#2) is called a worm shaft.

![]() Go figure, the steering ground at the very bottom. I wouldn't have guessed, somehow. ![]() Happy to say my "not sure" box only had 4-5 small pieces. Minus one, appreciate it.

Re: Steering box and rag joint questions
Ecklers also carriers replacement rag joints. I had my original steering box rebuilt by Red Head steering in WA. Does the date code on your box suggest its original?

The top is stamped "119 71". Might mean 1/19/1971. The box is original alright. I took the truck to a mechanic before I bought it in 1989. He said the only thing wrong was the steering box leaked and needed a replacement. I never replaced it. ![]() Thanks for the lead. I don't see me rebuilding the rag joint. Honestly, the rubber on the old one looks great, but I figure new is called for. What the heck at this point. Brand new truck, someday, yikes. BTW, Red Head steering finish it for you? Out of a rattle can or gun? She's packed away, mostly clean.
