Re: Alamites?

I'm not sure I ever heard the word. I have a one track mind and call them nipples .

Actually not sure about that, but I think I have heard that and used that a long time ago. I call them that thing where you put the grease in. Sorry, this is a serious topic, so seriously, I first called them grease fittings. Then when I heard zerks I loved the sound of that word and have used that ever since.

There needs to be a comic series made about a super hero mechanic named Zerk Alamite, Champion of the undercarriage.

Paul, no no no. It is also an ancient Muslim term kinda like the phrase Christians like to use "What would Jesus do?" only they use "Ala Might". (ah jeez, that was bad...sorry)

Re: Alamites?

I grew up in NC and always heard them called zerk or grease fittings, but I lived in Tupelo, MS, for four years and everyone I knew there called them alamites. I wonder if it is just a MS thing?

I think so.

Sounds like one of the tribes the Hebrews encountered when they entered the Promised Land.

Re: Alamites?

I don't recall them being called that but I know that Alemite was well known for making them.
It reminds me of a few younger engineers I know into 4x4's who call a rod end fitting a 'Heim'....again a company that was well known for making them.
....here is another famous reference based on a specific manufacturer....'Jacuzzi'

all good

Re: Alamites?

It's a thing like Crescent(TM) wrenches- some people call those "all sixteenths" sometimes, though. Alemite is just another brand name.

Re: Alamites?

I missed that Cresent Wrenches being called that. Never heard that one either. I thought you were saying it became the generic term for any tool of that design when it was the original product name...like Coke is for a cola soda.

Kleins is what we always call electricians wire cutter/pliers

Brillo pad even if it's SOS

Tabasco had ht sauce till all that exploded into 10,000 different ones. Not that Louisiana wasn't the term in some areas. That is one hot state!

Use any of the terms around a quickly lube tech and you'll get a blank stare. They have a grease gun hanging on the wall just coated in dust. They think it was an ancient tool designed by aliens and if touched will result in an incurable disease
