Will need an align hone with new main caps. Why do you NEED a 1972 block? Numbers matching or same year as truck blocks don't add value to these old trucks. Just sentimental value.
If the 1974 block is okay... just use it. It'll need to be bored out to clean it up, so there is your 355 at .030, or a 357 if it needs to go .040 over. If the 1972 block doesn't need to be bored out, I would never go larger "just because". Gary

If you are buying new parts: pistons, rods, crank, etc. It's crazy not to do the 383. Around my 'hood, rebuilding the stock parts costs more $ than buying aftermarket. I like the Eagle street 383 package. Competition Products has a good price on that kit.
