Any Opinions On These?

These are from an article on Motor Trend's website. The El Camino type vehicles are apparently hot in Australia. They labeled these "concept dream machines". I think they are interesting, but not my thing.

I'd rather have the back seat capacity than a bed you don't dare haul much in or go anywhere a truck can.

I agree. If you need a truck, buy a TRUCK!

Could be fun to cruise in one these though, and El Caminos were cool but obviously had the same limitations. If I had to choose one of these, I would probably opt for the Dodge also.

Re: Any Opinions On These?

I personally would like to see something like an El Camino come back.

Were they trucks? I don't know. That debate rolls on. But they were cool. I grew up wanting one. Still do.

Re: Any Opinions On These?

A little different view is that almost all of today's SUVs are in no way off road vehicles sorta like these "trucks" are in no way trucks. Most of what we call SUVs are really CUVs (crossover utility vehicles). Other than the Jeep Wrangler, what else qualifies as a true SUV?

However, CUVs and these mini trucks may be entertaining to drive. Different strokes for different folks.

Re: Any Opinions On These?

I was thinking "If you want a car buy a car". You asked for opinions. Yeah I'm an El Camino lover and I defend them. But those were good old Chevy Malibus that a common man could afford. And they didn't have the limitations these do. Remember, they were station wagon-based, so made to haul more than a coupe or sedan. I feel these are along the lines of the SSR, which I feel is a waste, a novelty. These look like expensive special interest play toy novelties. Australia has always had Utes and loved them. I'm sure the concept of the Rancheros and El Caminos originated from looking to Australia where that has always been a type of vehicle. Ranchers loved them, but I don't see ranch vehicles here. I think these are neat, but hardly Utes. More like stylin' cruisers for the suburbs of Sidney. I do think we are looking at the pickup of the future, and not far off!

I could drive a couple of them, but only if they had in excess of 450 HP.

Yeah, me too. I got away from my car interest and went all truck 20-25 years ago. I've always said the El Camino would be my car. If a build a street rod it will be a pickup. I just want trucks. but now that it seems the world wants everything to be a truck, A car seems more appealing to me. I have trucks, always will, want more. But I'd like a newer car for a car for when I don't need a truck and for traveling around.

I'd drive some of these, but I'm not lured by the bed. I'd rather have the car that four people can ride in. My pickups don't have back seats. If I buy for special interest it will be a classic or vintage. When I buy for style it's pre-73.

I'd rather have an actual Ute. They offer diesel in these and 4wd, handy and thrifty.

The Chevrolet Tornado/Montana are sold in Mexico so it's not unusual to see one around here occasionally.

I am not sure why there are not sold here. I think it would do pretty well. Sort of a modern take on a Chevy Luv

I see a lot of cool cars and trucks that aren't sold in the states and scratch my head. I suppose that they don't meet some safety standard.

Realistically, that would be about the best of the group to build one out of, they're actually big enough the "bed" would actually be useful and they're stylish enough to be kinda cool.
