Can anybody help me figure out what goes in the rectangle hole ? This is on the firewall right below the column. 69 GMC 2500. Also what do you do to keep the plastic clutch delete plug from falling out ??

That should be the hole for the emergency brake cable grommet. What year is your cab? That hole would be for a '67 & '68 cab.

This is the grommet for it and it has a hole for the E-brake cable to go through.

Here is the picture of a '69-'72 firewall and as you can see the E-brake hole is on the upper right side and there is no hole below the column opening.... .

Is the E-brake a handle under the steering column or a foot pedal?

69 and up which is mine has the foot pedal. So there must have been just a solid grommet in there with no hole. Seems like nobody reproduces these.

Re: Help Identifying grommet

I have an old post with the same question. Killer bee was kind enough to research it for me. But if you look at the post you will see Grainger shows various plugs sizes. If you measure it. You will find a size that you can use. I haven’t Measure the hole size yet. Which I probably shouldn’t have done prior to putting in the carpet and everything else. Now I will probably have to peel everything back to get at it. Or put some seam sealer in there. Good luck. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=751842

Re: Help Identifying grommet on firewall

Just curious if any other member has run into a truck where this hole at the beginning of the tread is used ?

Re: Help Identifying grommet

I have in the past I have got a piece of rubber thick enough, cut to size then dremel a groove in it to hold it in place. A make your own grommet attitude.

I have one, I am parting it out, coincidentally I just removed the cable yesterday which is why it is fresh in my mind. 1967 GMC.

Re: Help Identifying grommet

I’ll check my 69 cab... This is interesting for sure. I wonder if I has something to do with build date? Maybe earlier 69’s used updated left over 68 cabs or something like that.
