Is that for the insides or the whole axle?
What do you think it would cost to ship? That is farther that what I was wanting to drive. thanks Ron

I can't speak for JQ-72, but
I'm sure that for $300 you get the whole rear end. If it was just the carrier / posi unit, you could get a new one from Eaton for not a bunch more. As for shipping . . . . That would kill ya. That would push up the total cost too close to what you could buy a new Eaton posi third member. Darren

Yeah, 300 for the complete rear end. I would rather not part it out.

Sure wish I was closer to the two guys in Alabama that have one. I would take either on of them if I could get it here closer.

I have a 5-lug coil spring posi rear with new Richmond gears (3:73), new bearings, seals wheel cylinders, and studs. I sold the truck I intended to install it in a year ago, and I am tired of tripping over it in my garage. I live in the Kansas City area and will make a hell of a deal to move it. Please e-mail me if interested.

I have a 12 bolt 3:08 POSI rear out of a 72, I am located in manhattan, ks but would drive to meet you half way for my cost of gas. I am asking 275 for it. It is complete drum to drum. Let me know if you would be interested.

What will be better for driving on a highway? THe 3.73 or the 3.08? Not that a 402 bb is the best highway vehicle, but what is the difference that I would notice?
thanks

The 3.08 gears will be MUCH better for highway cruising...

What do you lose at the get go, or off the line I mean, with the different gears?
Thanks

The 3.73 is faster off the line, but the 3.08 will give you better gas mileage. The 3.08 will be more of a dog off the line unless you have a strong BB, then you will be able to pull it ok. Still not as good as the 3.73. Depends on what you want to use the truck for. If you do mostly highway, you should go with the 3.08, if you want to do stoplight races, then go with the 3.73.

my truck has 3.07's, and unless you are doing alot of stoplight/drag racing, I would go for the 3.07's. My truck definately isn't a dog off of the line, but it's not fast either. They will give you much better gas mileage, and better freeway cruising (lower rpms). If you want gears that will get you off the line quick, but will make it less economical and comfortable driving on the freeway...

Ron, the other thing to consider is trailering and gas mileage. If you plan to do a lot of pulling ----flatbed, boat, or other heavy stuff, the 373 gears will make that a bit easier. Actually the best overall gears I've seen are the 354 gears as they give you a great compromise.
I use 308 posi with a 5 speed. I can pull most hills fine but need to go to 4th on the steep long ones or when pulling a heavy trailer. This is with a mild 350. A big block should handle the 308's just fine in almost any application. If you expect to do a bit of highway driving, the 308 will give you max gas mileage potential. I would expect the difference to be at least 2-3 mpg difference on the highway. You might want to check to see what you are running right now gear wise. I would suspect a stock BB to have 307/8s so going to a 373 would give you a easier, faster, more torque start. At 75 though, you will wish for the 308 and vice versa!! No simple solution. ![]() |
