original radio
Getting down to the final touches on my 78 Silverado. Looking for advice on the radio. I am leaning toward an original radio. Anyone running an original radio as far as how well its works compared to a new aftermarket one. All I use is AM.FM none of the other new stuff. Thanks

Re: original radio
Still have an original AM-FM in my '74 Blazer-Works OK, sound quality not great even with new stereo speakers in dash. Don't listen to it much, but it looks cool....

Re: original radio
all I need is a am/fm radio. I don't need anything else. Just hate to buy an aftermarket because in the past I have never been happy with the quality. The ones I have bought have been ones that fit into the factory holes and I have been very disappointed. So saying all this I guess I am in the market for a org radio and pigtail.

Re: original radio
still using my factory am/fm radio in my 78. It works but i don't use .It fills a hole .I made a console for a stereo, tach , oil gauge mechanical, clock . All my factory gauges work except the electric oil pressure.I use the factory speaker brackets in the rear corners with better speakers. You can find factory radios at U pull it. olds cutlass of that era have the same radio. Most square body radio holes are hacked .

Re: original radio
Rickwood Radio in Birmingham Alabama is a GM factory authorized repair center. They can do any add-ons that you want on your radio.Ive just had them add the aux input to my radio and repair a couple resistors that burned out. The radio sounds better than when it was new. Oh, also the jacks for a amp. A little ove $200.00. But its still a factory radio and no cutting the dash. I could have gotten a modern radio but i didnt want to do any dash cutting. I thought long and hard befor i made the decision to spend that kinda money on it..
205 942 5595. You'll be glad you spent a little more . |

Re: original radio
I'll say this, oem radios have a lot better am/fm reception than aftermarket units.
