Colorado Members Exhaust and Registration Question
Recently moved to Colorado and need a recommendation on someone to do some exhaust work on my 1970 C10. Muffler has a hole so I need that replaced and would like to have the tailpipe end with a stock style cut instead of the chrome tip that the previous owner installed.
I'm located in Denver. Anyone have a suggestion on a shop that would be able and (willing) to do something that looks stock? Trying to get this thing ready to register here in Colorado. Will it just have to pass a basic old school inspection, i.e. horn, blinkers, wipers, muffler, etc.? Thanks BTW, I've seen way more classic vehicles here than I expected. Especially trucks. |

Re: Colorado Members Exhaust and Registration Question
Welcome to Colorado!
I registered mine as a classic vehicle. That allows you to bypass the emissions test, and I think the license plate and registration is good for 5 years if I remember correctly. Check out the DMV website for more details. You can also use 1970 CO truck license plates if you register them. Not sure on the exhaust question... Last edited by 402Bowtie; 08-15-2021 at 05:14 PM. |

Thanks for the info and the "Welcome!," I actually purchased a set of 1970 Colorado Truck plates prior to moving here in hopes of registering my truck with them. I'll take a closer look at the DMV website. Do you know if there are very many other CO members here on the forum? |

Re: Colorado Members Exhaust and Registration Question
Here's a snapshot from the website. I was wrong. It appears you can register model year 1975 and older without any emissions testing or mileage limits.

Re: Colorado Members Exhaust and Registration Question
You will also need to get a VIN verification on every vehicle you wish to register in Colorado if it currently has an out of state title. Should be a list of stations on the DMV website for this. I'll check into your exhaust question........

Re: Colorado Members Exhaust and Registration Question
Thanks. First I've heard of this. Does this apply to classic/collector vehicles too?

Re: Colorado Members Exhaust and Registration Question
Welcome! I am in the Denver area too. I have found that you have to do a VIN/Title check and then a emissions test unless you register as a collectors/classic vehicle.
I have used Exhaust Pros in Northglenn/Westminster for some work on another car of mine and they did good work at reasonable prices. I plan to take my truck there after putting in back together, to have them put new exhaust on. Welcome to Colorado! ![]() |

Exhaust Pro on Colfax Avenue. Ask for Ron or Howard and tell them Paul at Dave’s automotive recommended them. 303-367- four nine zero zero I have no personal experience with the shop but they come highly recommended from a good friend of mine that owns Dave’s automotive. Has been dealing with these guys for decades and really likes ‘em Steve weim55 Colorado Posted via Mobile Device |

Re: Colorado Members Exhaust and Registration Question
Thank y'all for the info. I'll check with Exhaust Pro and see what they say. Looks like they've been around a while and are familiar with classic vehicles.
I'm also trying to find a stock sounding/looking muffler. I contacted Walker which seems to be a popular brand in the old threads I found which were discussing stock mufflers. Walker responded by saying, "I’m sorry we do not list products for your application. Try checking Magnaflow Exhaust." Which I did, and they only offer "Performance" mufflers. |
