Argument?

Did GM ever stamp vin information onto SBC engines like passenger cars ? I have only ever seen plant and date stamp.

Re: Argument?

One could retroactively stamp a VIN. I'd think that it would be pretty obvious, though. It's not easy duplicating the factory stamp.

Re: Argument?

May have been dependent on the model.
In 1963 the Corvette's had the vin on the motor.

If that truck's engine has a VIN stamp that proves it's not original

Yeah right, that's a good one. Reminds me of the other day, where I learned the 1972 rearview mirror is on the headboard and the 71 mirror on the windshield He drove a "Super"

At least on a BBC, the rear LH side has a part number & date stamp, and on the front RH side something like.......T0426TKB. T stands for Tonawanda plant, and 0426 is for April 26th. The TKB suffix code means 71-72 truck L47, with a 400 transmission.

The intake is stamped and dated too, heads are stamped under the valve covers. With some rational and a little search it gives a guy a solid idea whether or not the block is original, though you need to know the build date as Customcamper said to know for 99%ish sure.

In other terms.........the blocks in our old trucks are "numbers matching", it just doesn't include a VIN.

I developed an assembly guide (kit) for restoring this truck from the ground up, complete with details including full hardware descriptions. Much of the info. applies to all 67-72 GM. My build thread, with some info. about the assembly kit https://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/...d.php?t=730025
