71-72 had a 2 port vacuum switch. The older controls had 3. As far as I know, the 1222890 was offered with 3 vacuum ports from the start. But I could be wrong.

I can't speak for a part number / vacuum control correlation, but I can say at least some 1971s were installed with a three port vacuum switch, they simply capped the #3 port. They were using up old stock in other terms.

Same with batteries, for instance. The 71 was supposed to be a side post battery, but some had top posts instead.
