That’s a wrap. 68’ GMC finally finished.
I bought this 1968 GMC long bed in the fall of 2019. I had been looking for a light yellow 67 or 68 body for a frame that I was already building.
It was meant to be a “use up all my extra parts” kind of build. Didn’t work out that way. Oops.

Re: That’s a wrap. 68’ GMC finally finished.
Frame was originally a long box from 1972.
Shortened using c-channel from ECE. A buddy of mine finished it off and added a small step notch for rear clearance. Sand blasted and painted gloss black.

Re: That’s a wrap. 68’ GMC finally finished.
Body was in amazing shape but still needed significant cab work. Inner and outer rockers, 3 mounts, both cab corners, lower a pillars and a few small floor patches.
Work was performed by another buddy. He does amazing work. He hid the cab corner seam behind the trim. The truck has zero filler.

Re: That’s a wrap. 68’ GMC finally finished.
Original bed sides were shortened by yet another buddy.
Bed floor is all original wood from a donor truck. Original tailgate was junk. Found a perfect replacement in Phoenix and a fellow truck guy from IG was kind enough to pick it up and ship it to me. Looks like it was there from day one.

Re: That’s a wrap. 68’ GMC finally finished.
Got rid of the original mouse infested bench and rubber floor mats for great carpet and recovered buddy buckets.
Tilt column and 15” wheel from a 71 GMC. Sure wish they made the 67-68 wheel in 15”

Re: That’s a wrap. 68’ GMC finally finished.
A few before and after contrast pictures.
To finish off the body I had a local body shop clear coat the whole truck. And a pinstriper add the red stripe on the trim, just like it was from factory. I really like the red over yellow. With the exception of front inner fenders, aftermarket trim and the rust repairs. The entire trucks sheet metal is all original GM panels. I’m still looking for original inner fenders for it.

Looks really nice. How come you decided not to blend the bed cuts in?

Re: That’s a wrap. 68’ GMC finally finished.
Thanks

2, I don’t see a viable way to hide the scars without making it more noticeable. The rockers and cab corners blending had the lower trim to hide the transition. The bed sides don’t have that and the original paint is so marked up from the farm that any attempt to blend would look silly. Thanks Thank you. Thanks. Thanks.

Re: That’s a wrap. 68’ GMC finally finished.
I was diggin' the spare "wheel" on the front...I can see why you abandoned it, however. Not much good without a tire...lol
Nice build and good original/modified look!
