Can I make my 68 307 sound like a Harley?
Its time for the muffler repacement. It cant be too loud for me...but I guess it does somewhat need to be muffled. Can one of these engines sound as good as a harley? How? I see on Trucks TV there is a epposode coming up in Feb where they will be tuning the exause sound with "electronic cutouts"???...
Thoughts...warnings???

You can't make it sound like a Harley. The HD is a v-twin configuration that has a sound of it's own. There aren't even any other motorcycles that sound like them (except aftermarket HD clones like S & S and Revtech)

Proably the closest you could get would be a pair of headers, 2-1/4" pipes, 12" glasspacks (maybe turned around backwards?), and big echo tips turned out behind the rear tires....would be pretty cackly, but not like a harley.
Personally, i much prefer a deep roar to the harley sound or a cackle.

I agree with Lucas, a deep mellow tone get's you looked at, not glared at. Besides, after about the first 2 hours on my Harley, I have had all the noise I can stand and start wishing I left stock pipes instead of a single 4in. {cored} exhaust. On my 72, and on my 68 trucks{both with 350}, I ran 2 1/2 inch duals with 14 inch glass packs set back as far as practical, with a crossover pipe as far foreward as I could. This evens out the pulses and unless I really step on it, they behave themselves nicely. I did this from stock rams horn manifolds because I'm too lazy to check header bolts for tourqe, and headers in my price range usually ring. Good luck with your truck. Bumpy

I've got 2-1/4 duals with Flowtec Afterburners dumping just before the rear wheel. It's a nice, deep tone with absolutely zero "cackle" and it's relatively loud. A common reference point is the "drive thru" test. I don't have to kill my engine at the McDonalds drive-thru, but you can damn sure hear it when I pull up to the window.
![]() I can also attest to Bumpster's exhaust setup. It's nice and mellow with a healthy tone. Maine won't allow glass packs, otherwise I'd have a nearly identical setup.

Mine has some big flare type tips straight out the back, and everyone loves the way it sounds.....
Of course, my Harley does sound much nicer...........

Where your exhaust exits your truck plays a big part in how loud it seems to you. Strait back, over the rear axle, and out the back
Is further from your ear then, Off the hedder, turned, and exiting in front of the rear wheel ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Here in Denver glass packs are illegle too.

Take the battery out and push it down the road while throwing money into an incinerator in the bed.

the only thing that i can think of to make it sound like that would be to have a 3/4 to full race cam, glass packs, headers, and exit the tubes right underneith the doors. not only do you get the sound of the harley, but also the feel.
