Suburban Squeak

Hey!

I have an 89 Burb 1/2 ton with dual doors in the back. Normally little noises don't bother me, but there is a horribly loud squeak that comes from the rear whenever I'm moving. If I push down on the floor by the rear doors I can make the noise happen, just not as loud as when it's being driven.

The only obvious things I can see wrong are a rusty cross-brace running laterally behind the gas tank that the sill plate bolts to, and a wornout body mount. The brace is flaking badly, and I'd like to change it, but I can't find one for sale anywhere or even a good description of it in any manual.

Do any of you guys have experience with these cross-braces and too much noise? Any help or advice would be most appreciated.

Thanks,
David

Fortunately, there's enough left of mine that it's still solid. Still, I've had some rust damage on the piece you describe.

Now for the good news. The crossmember/sill/body piece (whatever it's "official" name is) has now become available as a replacement part in the last couple of years. Try looking around, but I do know that Raybuck in Punxsatawney, PA offers them (www.raybuck.com ). It seems to me that I've seen 'em a couple of other places (maybe LMC Truck?).

I was exploring that route myself when I was poking holes in that piece on my truck a couple of years ago and farming out the repair to a muscle car restoration guy. The Raybuck guy told me to hang on and that the part was coming soon. In any event, I was lucky that there's enough left to still be structurally sound and didn't end up needing it. A year or two later, I now see that piece available.

Good luck!

Kevin

See http://www.raybuck.com/pages/downloa...hoto-Guide.pdf , page B-16 (16 of 32) in the bottom right corner-- this piece is called the "tail pan".

I hope this helps you out...

I need one of these too. I just talked to RayBuck and it's $139 for the "complete" tail pan. They don't have it in stock so it gets drop shipped from somewhere in NJ. Ship time I was told was 8-10 business days and shipping cost is $40!!
LMC has it for around $150 (inner support + tail pan skin) but I don't know how much shipping is.
