Welcome from Central Mississippi. How does the system sound? Our trucks aren't know for being the most accoustic-minded thing ever built. Mine sounds like I am in a metal trash can, so I have a radio delete plate covering the hole where a radio goes. Good looking truck though.

hey, thanks for all the warm welcomes =D

I could have posted pics... but I have about 35 on my cardomain site, and I spent about 2-3 hours making it, just for this reason. Hehe, mostly I just didnt want to uplaod a bunch of pics, when I already have them on a site.

I love my stereo =). It was metered at 157.4 Decibles on the drivers side near the floor next to the 6x9, about a week after I installed it, which means the subs hadnt really had time to break in. Now It should put out about 159-161 Db's at the same mic location. It only has 2 10 inch subs, with 300 RMS, 900 peak of powere to each, but they hit harder than most people with 3 10's, or 2 12", simply because they have to go through a back seat(in the trunk) or have an SUV which has a ton of internal volume. Basically, I need way less power and speakers than people with cars or SUV's, because a little really does go a long way. Most people's subs arent 10 inches from their door speakers, which means I can hit the same, or better volumes with smaller speakers. If you look at the pics of my sub install pics, you'll see why most people dont do what I did, at least without relocating the gas tank(yep.. my tank is still behind my seat ). As for clarity, I have Alpine Type-R 6x9's pushed by a 35W RMS/90 peak external amp(to each speaker), and a 40 watt RMS alpine mono amp pushing the 2 infinity tweeters in the dash. Im not using the internal amp in the deck, because they KILL your sound quality- lots of other parts in them means a lot of internal noise going to your speakers. Also, the deck says it puts out 50W /4, which im sure it does, but thats peak power- the RMS is only 23, which is still above average compared to most decks.

Its a SQ/SPL stereo- its still louder than I want to listen to it, without sacrificing clarity. The subs still sound great even when im listening to rock and stuff- they just add the low tones that you loose in normal speakers. Plus I can crank up my EQ and thump my gangster rap when I feel like it. Hehe

edit: I forgot to mention. I kinda misunderstood your post. True, the thing is a big metal can, but I have a 1/4 inch of DYNOMAT covering the floor underneath the carpet, and another 1/2 inch inside the door on the far side of the speaker. Soon im going to build some little enclosurs for my 6x9's, because when the cones in them build pressure, it makes the snap in door panels buzz sometimes. But sound-deading is the key to a clean sounding system. I'd dynomat the roof if i could

Welcome from Kansas. I have basically the same box in my '71, but I only but one 10 in it. How does is sound and work with the subs facing down. Glad to have you on board.

I decided to go with Kicker Comp C-10's because they were really cheap for the quality. I wanted to put in some JL w7 10's, Kicker solo-barric L7 10's, or Rockfos Hx2 10's- but mostly, im in highschool and I cant afford it. The C10's are nice subs, and they pound really hard, but I wouldnt recommend my set up if you had anything other than a singlecab truck. Kicker's are really space hungry, so it would have been a lot easier to go with rockfos's or JL's, but again, its all about cash. Facin em down, or "Down-firing", allows better bass displacement *if* you sound deaden correctly. exteremly low tones travel unlike higher frequency notes, they disperse much better, and much more evenenly. If your sub is "center-fire" or facing up, your seat coushin is absorbing probably 30-40% of your output, not to mention, the bass doesnt have a unform stage to disperse on, which means at the same volume, a sub that is downfired is going to be way more efficent than one that is centerfired. Im by no means an audio expert- I only know what I've read. But if you ever have your seat out of your truck, block it up off of your carpet about half an inch, put the seat back over it, and fire it up. Even with out sound-deadening, chances are its going to hit harder than it did facing up. Not to mention, it wont vibrate your ball's as much

Go to Sounddomain.com and check out the forums, theres a ton of stuff to read, and a lot of helpful people that know WAYY more about it than I do.

Also, what guage wire, what kind of alt. are you using, and what sub/amp? Ohmage?

that stereos nice,i might have to look in to the kicker subs, you said you hit 151dB with two 10's,i only hit 143 with my 2 15's in my s10,and they take up the whole back of the truck,do they make these same kickers in 15's?you know a rough price? thanks

what kind of subs are they(RMS power handling)? and how much power are you puttin to em(RMS/ohmage/wire guage)? You should be puttin out WAYYY more than 150's with 2 15's in an extended cab truck. How much box volume do you have, and what type of box? Also, because I have a singlecab, the sub location being so close to my door speakers alows for a much higher output in a confined space, my speaks are a lot nicer than my subs, and accont for a lot of my output. Also, Kicker's are known for underrating their powerhandling.

The new kicker comp VR's come in 15's, and sound awsome. They are probbly about $250 -$300 for a pair of em on ebay. In a store, prolly $500-600(for the pair). But, you need a lot of power. If you are really goin for an impressive system, look into JL w7, Rockford Hx2's, Or Brahma's. Phoenix Gold makes some killer subs too. But, 2 JL w7 15's, is prolly gonna need an 1000+ amp per sub. So your lookin at prolly 1k for your pair of subs, about 3-5cu foot per sub in a sealed box, then prolly another 2k for your amps, and another couple hundred for double ought wire.
