Question BB Header recommendations

Looking for recommendations for a Big Block header for a 71 2wd with a BB. Requirements are that it have 2 inch pipes and 3 1/2 inch collector so it will breath. Also the truck is lowered so it cant have headers that are lower than the frame rails. Would like headers to run at about frame rail height, trying to run exhaust pipes at that level through the frame crossmembers. Tried 68-74 Chevelle Car BB headers and they didnt work. Car headers had conflict with the frame rail on drivers side, would even come close to being mounted...on the passenger side it had a conflict with the transmission 700R4 housing near the starter.

What are people using, which Brand...model number?
Thanks, Rod

Sounds like you need custom built headers. I use Sanderson P/N BB3 3/4 length headers on my 468. These are for Chevelles but they fit my frame w/o any problems. The passenger side was close @ the frame (about 1/8") so I did trim 1/8" off the top of the framerail for a total of 1/4" clearance. They have 1 7/8" primary dia tubes w/3" collectors. Not quite what you want, but close (without having to pay $$ for custom made).

Hope this helps your search.

Building a small, high rpm engine with the perfect bore, stroke and rod ratio is very impressive.

Yo Rod, whut up dude!

I used Hooker Comp headers on the BB in my 4x4. They don't seem to hang below the frame but I did have to cut about 3" out of the length of the passenger side collector to clear the t-case. The passenger side upper frame rail also had to be trimmed about 1/4". You might try the passenger car shorty headers, seems like people are running those for the same reason you are giving.
