Spare Tire Crank Down Mount?
Has anyone on the board adapted a later model spare tire crank down mount (under the bed, behind the rear end) to our trucks? I've got the frame on sawhorses and it would be an ideal time for me to make the change, if it's do-able. I looked for a thread on this but couldn't find one, so if someone can point me in the right direction I would greatly appreciate it!
How difficult could it be? |

It shouldn't be that big of a deal and would be pretty cool for hiding the spare, but I would rather have the fuel tank there. Plus in my case I have the side mounted spare.

I have done this. It was a while ago but I think I made a cross member to bolt the thingy to then bolted the cross member in between the frame rails. Also I made a rod about 2 1/2 feet that ran out to the rear of the truck behind a flip down lisence plate and that connected to the "thingy" so you could raise and lower the tire.

I have a few brand new take out tire winches left from new Dodge vans. If you decide to go this route let me know and I'll give you a helluva deal.

I am planning to fab & install a spare tire crank down mount on my truck.
I took the crank assembly off a old Chevy LUV mini pick up truck ( any mini truck crank assy should work) and also got the crank that goes with it. I have not fab the crossmember yet, but it will be a simple bolt on design. I think it will be a great improvement over breaking my back to secure the factory spare tire set-up. |

Well I'd give it to ya for free. PM me your address and I'll see if I can get you a freight amount on the weekend. If it's affordable enough then I can send it out.
