rubber door seal question
im going to be putting the new door rubbers on in the next day or 2, once i get them on, with that 3m black adhesive stuff should close the doors and let them set up and into place or do i leave the doors open and let them set up that way?
thanks, Derek

I personally don't know what would be best, but on another thread (I can't take any credit for this idea) someone used the black heavy duty paper clips to hold the stripping while the adhesive cures. I think the weatherstrip cement is a contact adhesive, and if that's the case, shouldn't it be applied thin to both surfaces and allowed to get tacky before sticking the weatherstrip in place? I do know from experience that you should clean the weatherstripping of the talc that's use as a mold release in the manufacturing process, or it'll release itself from your door frame after installation.

Derek, I did mine one side at a time and started at the top front corner (directly above the vent window) on each side. That way you know you won't missmatch the preformed rubber corner on the weatherstripping, and I made sure the splice (where the 2 ends meet) was roughly in the middle of the rockerpanel (or around there) so the sillplate will cover it. I used the 3M weatherstripping contact adheasive in moderation and let it cure overnight with the doors open (in a garage, with many dogs, with BIG WHITE TEETH!!! LOL) The 3M adheasive was user friendly, later Doug

I use the 3M black adhesive, also. 3M masking tape is used to hold the rubber in place overnight. I leave the door open and put the joint at the bottom under the step plate. My experience has been that the rubber seals shrink over time so I cut the rubber long and squeeze it in place.

I used the wooden clothes pins to hold mine on. The ones that are used to hold the laundry on the line to dry. Sneak them out or the wife will ask questions!
