Picture request (73-80 half ton P-U)
I need a picture showing the driver's side frame rail of a 73-80 (possibly up to -87) half ton pick-up, taken from the passenger side below the truck just to the rear of the tranny crossmember where the frame curves up. It's possible i have a bent frame rail, but i need a pic to verify.
Thanks, -Axle

I know what you're talking about, but I don't have a pic yet. That bend in the frame where its lower than the rest IS factory on some trucks. (Not Jeffs 73). I know my 86 LWB and 87 SWB both have it. I'll get a pic tonight for you...

Yeah, I bet what you are seeing is the factory "flair" in the frame. It is where the stock cat is supposed to go. Should be there from 75 (?) on up....

Here's the best pic I have of what I think you are seeing. This is on all frames that did or could have came with cats I believe. My 85 and 79 both have this flair, as Ken calls it.

Jeff that's exactly what i need to see. Thanks to everyone else for the pics too. Now my left frame rail has a bent lower lip, a long section of it is bent downwards quite a bit and doesn't look like it should be that way from the factory. Elgracho it'd be great if you could post a pic since you obviously know what i'm looking at.

And to add to the confusion, my truck came with a 350 olds diesel from the factory and obviously has never had cats installed.

Sorry I took so long with this picture, I don't think it shows much more than Mike's did. Anyhow, here is the frame on my 86 LWB factory diesel. I looked at my 75 lwb 350 gas that originally had a cat and it was the same, this one was just easier to get to for a picture. If this is the area of the frame you are seeing, it's a factory bend just like has been posted here previously. I know it scared me the first time I saw it...
