Check GMC Paul's website:
http://www.gmcpaulstruckparts.com/index.htm
They're listed there.

GMCPauls dosen't list 71-72 GMC vin decoding.

Pretty much 72 GMC vins are like 72 Chev vins... only in 72 the vins have an extra first(prefix) letter..... typically TCE for a GMC or CCE for a Chev.. both these being 8 cyl examples.

70 -71 GMC vins were stamped in couple different patterns. Depending which plant built them... usually the Canadian Built Oshawa plant vins stump some people.

But you could always post as much of the vin necessary ( typically leave out last 4 numbers )for me to tell you what it is. Or PM me it.

GMC Pauls doesn't show the years 70, 71, 72 for GMCs model year (7th digit). My 70 has a letter Z. But what are the ones for 71 and 72. THe Chevys are numbers.
67 - 72 = 7, 8, 9, 0, 1, and 2 respectively.

I haven't seen it anywhere on this for the 71 and 72 GMCs. Just curious though.
I wrote down all the VIN info I have into a small spiral notebook for taking with me when going to the salvage yards etc.

My bad. Sorry to mis-inform you. Saw he had some info on VIN's and such. Didn't look to see. Sorry.

I've probably posted and replied on the same subject 50 times or more.

Here's a way of 70-71 GMC vin decoding.
Now people will know again.

The 72 stye dosen't change from a typical 67-72 chev except for the extra letter c up front in the vin.

The only thing different in 70-71 GMC vins is they put what style box came with the truck in the vin number.... 04 being a step side... 03 being a cab and chassis only and 34 being a fleetside box.

And in 1970 GMC used the letter Z instead of a 0. It's get pretty easy to decode after you do it enough.
It's like a step back to the 67 GMC vin decoding in a way for 70-71 GMC's.
