HEI Fit In A 4X4
The 350 in a 4X4 is even closer to the firewall than a 2 wheel drive. Does anyone know for sure if an HEI will fit in a 4X4? Thanks, Joe Bob.

Yes, my 350 is sitting in the 6cyc positions and the HEI fits just right. You got to have the cap and rotor off but it fits.

I gotta 350 w/HEI set up in my '71 GMC Jimmy -- like a K/5 but GMC's paperwork calls it a "K/1500." Third engine --at least as I know-- but it came from the factory w/ a 350. So I hope it's the stock set up. It's a tight fit, but I didn't even have to ding on the central firewall. Distributor install is a 3-step process, however, first the candlestick proper, then rotor, then cap, then wires. You gotta layer it in gradually. With the old points set up, you could leave the plugwires all thatched together and just snap the cap on in 2 places. The HEI uses 4 screws that you need a 90 degree screwdriver to set. Tough reach until you get the right tool set up.

HEI fit
Summit has better than stock HEI units that are smaller in dia. and easier to work with in the tight areas if you have the money to buy a new dist.
