Door skin question..
As I was block sanding yester day I noticed that my door's have a slight taper on each end just before the door is this to aid in clearing the fender when the door close's or do I need to hammer and dolly the edge's back out??? Also has anyone bought a lower fender cup patch pannel and from who and how was the quality???

I have seen the fender cup patches in person and they looked very good but they are also very expensive.

Hmm, the ones I saw were about $60 each. I have been looking for one in junkyards for the past 10 years and have yet to find one.

FRENCHBLUE72, IMO the doors usually taper at both edges. I don't know if it's a part of the stamping process between inner and outer panels, or if the doors all have a slight bow. Almost every door that I've ever blocked from 57 Chevy 2 door hardtops to 47 Chevy pickups have a slight bow. If you can live with a little bit of distortion on the edges of the doors, keep blocking. If not, I suppose that you could hammer and dolly the edges up. Hope this info helps. Kevin

IMO on the rear edge of the door not much if any. The front edge on 67-72 Chevy Pickups seem to have a very distinct taper. Again IMO it depends on just how straight you want the truck to be. If it was me I'd leave the taper, It's part of the way the truck was built when new. A few years ago I restored a 55 Chevy pickup with the same setup, I just blocked the doors like they were and the job looked great. I don't believe the difference would be that noticable compared to the work involved in trying to straighten the edge. Kevin
