A word of advise. Check which 3 speed you have. 67/68 used a shorter non-syncho'd version and 69-up used a longer synchro'd version. If you don't get one to match your existing tranny, you'lll have driveshaft and shift linkage issues to contend with.

The 67/68 one has 4 bolts on shift fork cover. The later (longer) version has 7.

Jeff,

Good observation, I did not know that.

Is there a way to tell from the outside, other than comparing the lengths?

No problem. I can't believe there was something I knew that you didn't. It's usually me asking you the questions.

If things go as planned, next week I'll be picking up a '71 Blazer, orange and white, NP205 and SM465 and dropping the 350 and some other goodies out of my '72 and parting out the rest. Otherwise I have a guy who is selling me a '69 Longhorn and a '70 GMC, both manual trannies if I decide to continue to drive a truck. I've decided that my '72 is so badly thrashed body wise that when I get the blazer or longhorn (or both :p ) I'll be pulling the engine and a few of the nicer parts (interior, dash) then pulling and scrapping the cab, selling off the vin plate and selling the frame and drive gear.

My local trans shop rebuilds them for 200 dollars exchange. You might check that avenue, because shipping on one of those cast iron rascals is going to cost you.

I hope it doesn't cost as much to rebuild yours as the last one I had rebuilt.(for work) It was in the $700 range. BTW, Kurt L has one 4 sale.
