bed question

After a year of just sitting in my backyard I finally hauled my truck saturday to a friends house to start the body work process. Good thing is my friend has the same vision of what the truck will look like when finished. Well after about 2 hours of taking the right side rocker out i discovered the piece of cab behind the door had been smashed in and full of bondo.. Now i knew the truck had been wrecked before but the po told me it was only hit in the bed she never mentioned the cab. Although my body guy says its not a problem it got me 2 wondering how bad the bed really was ..so i decided to check it out more exstensively and dicovered almost half the bed on the side in front of the fender was bondo....Needlesss to say it upset me but it more so got me to wondering what else she didnt tell me...Anyhow back to my topic..Did the 1971 short beds have an option where they didnt have any chrome trim around the tail lights? Or does my tuck have the wrong bed? any help would be great
