Doors are hung and have a windshield now
Well, now both doors are hung and the windshield is installed. Body guy was having some fender difficulty as there was a large gap at the bottom of the fender. Body guy said adding cab shims wouldn't be enough so he said to cut 1/2" off the front radiator support blocks that I had made. I took them to a friend early this morning and a minute or so later on a $80,000 lathe and the blocks were cut down 1/2".
Hopefully the body guy will get some incentive and mount the fenders today. He still needs to shoot the steering column and he will have to redo the driver's door and the drivers fender due to some problems. So little for him to do, let's hope my truck is home soon!!!!!!!!!!

Nice to see he's making progress on that mean machine Mark. I'm a very patient guy to, but even I would be getting a bit steamed right about now. Glad to see you're keeping a cool head, It will all be worth it in the end when you get to fire up the BIG block and go around town using ricers as speed bumps It'll be like "BUMP" what the hell was that?? oh just another Honda

How long did it take to reinstall the windshield?

I let the body guy do it so if it broke, he was on the line for it - he said it was a bear to put in.

that is looking SWEET. I did the shim the cab trick when my fender had a huge gap at the bottom. It looks better now, but not even close to how good yours looks.

Yukon, tell me about the doors. Were they painted on or off the truck? Was the cab painted with the hinges on or off? What is the sequence to painting multiple pieces like these to get them all covered and not scratched up on installation? Or do the parts get primed, assembled and then shot?

Canadian694x4 - I have put new body mounts in the Blazer and am presently and slowly preparing some 3/4 ton axles to go under it. That gains me disk brakes up front and with 8 lugs I can use some spare tires and rims that I happen to have that came off the K20 when I bought it. Haven't had much time this summer to work on anything unfortunately.
nu2-72 - I took the truck to the body guy completely disassembled and he has painted everything apart. Some say that is a good way, others say it isn't. The bad is that you can end up with paint that doesn't match perfect and you have to be real careful when reassemblying. If I were to do it again I would prefer to get the interior, firewall and door jambs painted, then reassembly and finish painting at one time. No problems yet for me color wise but just seems that would be better. I have heard people recommend taping all edges when reassemblying to prevent scratching.

I went out today as I knew that was the only way to get some more progress Anyway, I pulled the fenders back off and drilled out the C20 emblem holes and then reinstalled the fenders. Had to elongate one of the fender holes to allow the fender to come forward a touch to allow the door to open properly. All the lines are lined up pretty good now - not as hard as I thought it would be.
I also installed both inner fenders and got everything snugged down. Unfortunately there is really nothing else I can do until the body guy paints the hood hinges. Then hood and cowl needs to go on and then he has to fix the driver door and the driver side fender and do a couple touch ups. Surely he can get that done soon Here are some new pics showing alignment. One of the rockers that was replaced by a friend of mine is set in a little deeper than it should be, but this is a driver not a show truck so I'm not worried about that. Better than a rusty rocker!

is your fender already haven paint flake off? I love body shops....they alway seem to be real pros at dealing with cutomers. I'm not haven much luck with any local shops......always find some bad news about them.
At least your getting somewhere with your project. Mine is still waiting on me to take a brake off from work. They won't tow it without plates or proper registration. Tomorrow I'll run to the DMV or AAA office and get it done, hold that agaisn't me guys. Good luck Yukon |

Lookin' good! You might be able to get a better fit along the bottom edge of the fender by putting shims between the inner fender and the cab brace...

MrGoodpliers, I have one shim down in that location and it seemed to help alot on the fit at the bottom but I still have a problem in the at the middle area of the fender line at the door.
