Tilt column
I am going to install A 700R4 in my 70. I was thinking of pulling A newer tilt column with the 4-speed auto shifter that has the ignition switch in the column. I want to use the ignition switch in the column instead of the original. Anybody done this MOD?? opinions please!!!!
THANK YOU GARY

I cant verify this but A friend of mine put one in his and he said he cut the old Ign Switch Off and put the wires back color to color .. chevy is pretty good about keeping the same color codes but i dont trust them
I belive id get a test light and remove the switch from the dash so its hanging down but still functional test all the points and Write down on a piece of paper Like red wire constant 12V and so on. THen you will have an idea as to what these wires do and how to hook them to the later model ign switch harness . The scientific way would be to get a schematic for the truck you pulled the colum out of as well as the 72. Cant be too hard though. |

Although i have never done it i have seen several trucks with the newer columns installed,if you use the wiring off of the newer truck you could also possibly get the intermediat wipers and cruise also.

You could The newer ones with the int wipers just have a delay box that plugs in series with the wiper harness. Once again you would have to wire the harness off a newer truck onto to 72 but would be neat.
This would be a good colum if you wanted to keep with what you have but get tilt and key on the colum http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s....php3?t=116334 |

I have done this mod. it took a lot of work & doesnt look right. where the column goes under the clutser the later one is larger & doesnt fit right. also they dont have the locating slot where it mounts to dash behind cluster. you need to remove the welded on nuts used for mounting.
I like having the option of using delay wipers & cruise so I may do some changing to mine so it looks better. I will snap some pics today & post them unless the "server is too stupid & cant handle this much info at once" pm me your email just in case Todd

Just hook up the shifter so it goes P R N OD D 2. Do you really need to hold it in first gear?
