A 422 Big Block
How can you make a 422 big block chev? Is it a 396 or 402 with an unconventional bore? I have a chance at it but don't want to get into something that I can't find pistons for. You help is greatly appreciated.

why would you want to build this motor? pistons will almost definately be a custom made piston. a 427 or 454 would be much cheaper.

It must have started as a 396 I would guess or a 402. It has just been rebuilt. It currently has a stock bottom end but he may be willing to trade me for a sb that he needs to go into a vehicle to sell. I still need the casting numbers and crank number before I make my final decision. I was wondering if this may have been one of those .040 bores some people do. I need to run through the calculations to find out what it started as. I plan on doing a stroker but I need the base block to begin with. Just looking for insight.

Never heard of it. Could be the seller just has no real idea what he has.

i think if you use a454 crank in a 396/402 block it comes up as a 427. i don`t know if the 454 crank will physically fit the 396/402 block due to the bigger stroke but i could be wrong. would still need custom pistonce since this isn`t a norman set up.
