Post This post won't be too popular!

Looking at the other post about radios, I was thinking that I need to have mine origianl AM-push button radio fixed. Here is what it is doing:

It will get power to the unit, but it will not make any sounds.

After a while of driving (very randomly) the radio will come on and sound good as new.

Then, it will slowly fade in and out.

What the heck is going on? Does anyone know if a novice like me could buy a part, maybe a diode from Radio Shack and fix it?

Or, do any of you know where I could get the thing fixed? Either in the Tyler or Dallas area would be most convienient.

The radio sounds great when it does work and there is a cool AM station here that plays only the old country music that I enjoy. Thanks!

What's wrong with you? Are you some kind of fool? I mean really, why mess with that piece of garbage when you can run down to Wally World with $96.76 and pick up an ultra modern AM/FM/CD/MP3/DVD (with remote) and get all the latest Hip-Hop stations! Just a little Nip/Tuck and you'll be jammin'

All kidding aside, I'd locate another known working radio and replace the one you have before attempting to fix it. I hear people are just throwing them away!

Well, does anyone have a working AM radio that they want to give away or sell real cheap. I'll work out the shipping and all that stuff too. I just hate to replace mine though because it looks like new, there are no scratches on the knobs or buttons, no pitting on the chrome face, but it does not work well. That it why I wanted to try to fix it.

At the very least you'll know if it's the radio or something else if you replace it. If the replacement exhibits the same problem, it ain't your radio, it's antenna or speaker

Hey PerchJerker, I have a whole box of them. If you want one, PM me an address. I will check the shipping price, and you can have one for the cost of travel. Really, I have 15 of them, in all conditions...with knobs, without, etc....Of course I would give you a WORKING one. Just let me know if you are interested.

Cool Keep it original....

Perchjerker,
The fact you want to keep your truck ORIGINAL is gr8 and you can always buy a up to date system and hide it even if you dont fix the am orig. you can use the remote to listen to whatever,so to keep the factory look. So the only FOOL would be the CLOWN that through it away! good luck

Good country & western stations are getting hard to find. Here in Wichita we have KFTI, 1070 AM, with Johnny Western, who became famous for "The Ballad of Paladin.

Thats the way my radio was for a couple years, I asked on here about it and someone suggested to use control cleaner on the knobs, tried that didnt fix it, bought a nice AM radio at a swap meet for $20, replaced it with my old one and it works nice now.

Got all the PMs. Replied with shipping costs.
Hey Goodpliers, I never thought of swapping out the chrome face. Good info to know in case one looks nice and doesn't work correctly. I will keep that in mind.
