What's a good paint for Brake Drums?
Want to paint my brake drums and wonder what is the best paint to use. My first thoughts are to use POR-15 as I've had some experience with it. What have you used that held up.

If they are freshly sand blasted, or new, and you have the time/money, you could get them powder coated, and not have to worry about them again.

That "MONEY" thing has been a problem throughout this entire restoration.

I spray my drums with black BBQ grill paint.

Washem up good,use a wire brush.and use a Rustoleum or Hammerite type paint it will never come off.

Desert Rat, what is the proper preparation for Hammerite? Do you need to remove all the rust of just wire brush it? I like the looks of hammerite and I know it is tough.

I have always used engine paint...VHT, never once had a problem with it. That is why in the '60's the drums were painted blue or orange on hot rods, eng paint don't burn very easy.
I actually pait my BBQ grill with VHT paint! ------------------ '69 G.M.C. 350/350. Trying to clean up the left over damage from the Dope-Smokin-Old-Man I've been dubbed the Longhorn Freak/Fanatic/Expert, I just hope I can live up to it. hmmm, at work we sparay paint all disk brake and drums, not the main surface but the surrounding area that doesnt get touch by the pads, we use high temp enigne paint, spray can, you can pretty much get it at any auto store

I bought some VHT (Very High Temp) Brake and Caliper paint. It says it is good to 900 degrees.
It comes in a limited variety of colors. I haven't smoked my brakes off the back side of Hebron with a D-9 cat in the bed to try it out, but it only cost 6 bucks. ------------------ Scrub 70 GMC 1,000,000 + miles 72 K-20 project, 456 Dana60 front, Corp14 rear w/locker, 265R19.5 tires 20-ply. Warn 12k winches both ends, Cross-over steering with raised tie-rod, Powerbox steering, 4500 watt 120-AC power, Air, Hydraulic aux power, 4 inch lift, 5000 lb air-bags both ends.

Eastwood has paint for parts like these. I have the caliper paint and it's holding up great. The brake drum paint is a different shade.

i have a friend who used chevy orange engine paint on a 66 impala with slots, looks real cool, and paint hasn't burned yet
