New Guy On The Block With A 1949 3600 Chevrolet

Hello everyone I just purchase a 1949 Chevrolet with a 235 engine and it runs strong, no smoke, but does have a little skip to it. No bed. rust through in the corners of the cab on both sides and on the right side in front of the door. It has body rust all over but not bad. the seat is there but the bottum part is not cover, but the seat is in good restoriable shape. it has a heater, but not hook up. The speedo is missing. other then that it's all original except converted to 12volts. Not sure what to do with her yet..thinking about parting it out all but the cab and front end panels. and making a rod out of her. What do you all think about that and what all frames would work under her to get the update suspensions.........Thanks Clint

Welcome to the board from SW Washington

Those are some well built trucks....

What would you be thinking of for rodding her?

Would like to upgrade the suspension and brakes so I was thinking of changing out the frame. Would like to add a newer step bed that is more rounded. How hard would it be to extend the cab a few inches to get some leg room. Also add a 327 with auto, a/c, power steering and maybe power windows

Welcome to the forums. These ol trucks are great.
<----Sure not much leg room if your over 6' like I am,but I'll survive

I've seen nova/camaro subframes grafted in the front for the newer model suspension, and then there are a ton of parts that will fit

www.lmctrucks.com is a great place to start for parts. You can get just about anything you need to put her back together.

Looks good I like the one with the little side glass. I think the full extended cab looks funny. Thanks for the pics

I recently bought my 49 5-window and was also playing with the idea of extending the cab. Currently looking into a frame swap to allow me to put the 327 in the garage into the truck. I am thinking of bright yellow, with flames.

Let me know if you want some high res pics sent. Those pics look terrible after resizing them.

Looks good. I was thinking of the same thing, but maybe a 283, 327 or a 350small block. Thinking of going flat black

The green/blue one with the newer bed looks funny. The newer bed on that model doesnt look so good IMO. The step on the bed doesnt match the body lines at all. On a 55 + model they dont look too bad.
