Now my truck is now showpiece by any stretch of the imagination but I tired to wet sand it with 2000 grit and nice soapy warm water and I practically destroyed the paint job. just tons of really dull looking swirl scratches and I was not happy to say the least. So what am I missing.

What did you buff it with? I can't get my paint to look that good on my 2002 GMC.
