well I lowered it!!!!
Like the title says ! I did it the wrong way but I like it and I guess thats all that matters. I heated the springs and dropped it 2 1/2 in the front and 3 in the rear . It didnt hurt the ride at all ,I know thats hard to believe but its true. What do ya think?

Ha ha! I was just thinking about how good that looks. All you did was heat it up? You say the ride is the same? Have you checked your alignment yet?

YES , I had it aligned right after lowering it. In fact the guy at the shop got pissed at me for doing it.

No problems at all . Most people heat the sping in one place . we heated it on three different coils and all the way around . when we felt the truck start to move we took the heat away and bounced the truckand then let it sit to see where it was . It took a good 40 mins to lower all 4 corners. We started at 1pm and took it to the aligment shop at 3pm.I was back on the road by 4.

I have never heated front springs Make's More sense to me to remove them and cut a coil .
I heated rear springs once the ride sucked bad Maybe i lowered mine too much? It squished all the coils together But sure did look good Last edited by 1972C10; 07-02-2007 at 01:15 AM. |

Brian I cant belive you did that. I've lowered lots of trucks over the years and I've aways cut one round out of the front and used square tubbin with longer U bolts. This gets you a 2" drop for around 20.00 bucks plus the alingnment! But your truck does look good!

I always thought that lowering it by heating the springs would alter the tempering of the coils and make them brittle. I am going to take mine out and cut off a coil in the spring to bring the front end down a couple inches

I had done it once before when i was real young and stupid . I heated the springs on one of my Novas and it didnt work that well. I was told to put stands under the bumper and heat the spring till it dropped onto the stands then let them cool . I did this and after about three hours I removed the stands ,The car hit the floor. I had to buy new springs and I said then and there I would NOT do that agian. Well a friend of mine owns this repair shop and i watched him lower his 71 SS Camaro ,That he just got 20 grand out of, with heating the springs . I asked him to do mine and he said Okay and away we went. Now I'm not lying when i say It did not hurt the ride of the truck at all. Infact I think it helped it. This truck was stiff as a brick when it was normal hieght. Now I fell like I'm driving SS nova thatr stays in the grarage. It has a smooth ,curve hugging ride. I might later on go and put drop springs in the rear and spindles up front but right now I'm having fun !!
OH Hotrodtoy the guy is a F==d lover ,Thats his problem

Just wait. Give it a while for the springs to settle. You may be happy with it now, but once the springs collapse your tune will change....

when i cut my coils i cut 2 full coils out we were of the mindset no guts no glory haha and also had a spare set of coils in the shop but anyways i think i cut too much because when u lift the truck the spring are loose and u can literally move them arouind by hand but hell i got it aligned and it rides awesome, if i was looking for ride quality i woulda bought a cadillac or something

I really like the stance you've come up with. It must have been really hard to keep the sides even as you were heating the springs.
