New Carb War Edelbrock 1904 Quad vs 1406?
1904 Q-Jet vs the 1406?
I got an email from Edelbrock saying either carb would be ok on my 402BB..What say ye board members? I've eliminated the Holly and have decided to go with the Edelbrock but still not sure which model. The Q Jet is a 795cfm because I want an electric choke and you can't get an electric choke with the 750cfm carb or option #2 is the 1406 which is a 600cfm with electric choke. Oh by the way it will go on: 402BB, 400 auto, 3:42 gears with an Eaton posi, Performer manifold, mild Comp Cam (262 series), Pertonix II HEI, and Thorley Headers. Lets vote... Q-Jet ot 1406...Which is my beeter choice. I will make a decision by Monday... Thanks... Dewayne 70cst [This message has been edited by 70cst (edited April 06, 2002).]

Qjet might be a little better on mileage, but that Edelbrock Qjest isnt cheap unlike the 600 square bores.remember the electric choke models run leaner that the manual choke.I have a 600 Edel on my 402 and it runs fine,no complaints.its my daily beater, might be a little undercarbed?but it works great, crisp fast throttle respone,i had a 750 on it for a while, but it didnt quite need that much.Remember Qjets have very small primaries-they have good throttle resons and huge secondaries for when you put your foot in it,I love Qjets but having one thats good for me has been a rarity!!!Got a box and crate full.same with Holleys. If i am gonna keep and drive something-it gets a performer manifold and a edelbrock carb.

I would look at the 1411,750 cfm ,elect choke......calibrated a little leaner than the 1407. I put one a a relatively stock 400 poncho,& it worked out very well.....69 longhorn.

Hey 69 Longhorn:
I never even thought about the 1411. I wrote to Edelbrock and they didn't even mention the 1411. Now that's one more thing to think about. This truck will not be a daily driver. Just something to drive on weekends and once in a while during the week. One thing you can't beat is the sound of the Quad opening up. Like I said...I will make a decision next week. What to do...GEEEEE I'm getting a headache trying to make a decision? HEHEHE Thanks for the 1411 idea. Regards, Dewayne 70cst

for the money,I think you are ahead on the edelbrock square bore carbs,& 750 isnt too much for your app. Im runnin a 1407 on my 383(Edelbrock RPM top),everything but the cam.(Comp cams XE268). The 1411 is listed for 402& larger perfomer apps,& about 1/2 the money as the Q jet.....& a reliable carb. Good luck ,whatever way you go.....69 longhorn.

Would one see much difference in gas consumption between the two carbs?

I recently installed a 1406 on my mild 350 in place of a Qjet. I proably got 10-15 extra HP, but i lost 1 mpg. I did buy the calibration kit, and put it one "step" richer in the power mode, so that explains the problem. Overall, i like the carb alot and would reccomend it to anyone.

Yellow72Custom..
The Sq. Bore Carbs (Performer) will give you more horsepower over the Quads? This would be comparing the same cfm rated carbs. Why would that be? Now were getting to the brass tacks? [This message has been edited by 70cst (edited April 06, 2002).]

I dont know how well my Qjet was adjusted, but it definetly made it more powerful. I have a kinda flat 1/4 mile stretch of pavement i "play" on sometimes, and with my Qjet i could only hit 80-85 MPH by the end of it. After i bolted on and calibrated my 1406, i could hit 90+ mph by the end of it. Pretty big difference, but like i said, my Qjet wasn't running all that well.
