Unexpected Purchase
Had never really thought about getting a suburban but when CPNE put his 72 3/4 ton 4x4 up for sale, I started thinking about all the possibilities.
Being I went 'reto' awhile back, (sold everything newer than 72) I figured a 3/4 ton burb would make a great work truck. This burb has seen it's entire life in the northeast and has a body to prove it. So at this point it's "band aid" time just to get it to pass VT state inspection, then maybe next year start looking for a southern body for it. Here's a couple of pics, don't flame me for the patch work we're doing, it's the quickest way to get it on the road, which I need to do because the 70 swb 4x4 is taking allot longer and is turning out allot better than anticipated. I needed to get a work truck on the road like now, before snow flies! Last edited by vtblazer; 12-27-2004 at 07:11 PM. |

Nice tin work vtblazer. We all know that you're capable of much better work, so if you just want to get through inspection and use her as a work horse, more power to ya.

burb
Yeah, one of life's little treasures...
Can't wait until my retired neighbor see's it, she used to really bust my a** when I was building the blazer but now she likes it, this one's gonna get her going all over again. The burb will be back on the road working everyday, the way it's supposed to be. GMC71K20 - Didn't make the jamboree. Let's start a meet & great for next year's! Sweet72 - kind words, thanks. You just gave it a 'nickname'. Cethern - FJ's not mine, it's the shops plow truck. LUV - Your a man of many words... Yukon Jack - yeah, rare that's it. What's up with that anyway...? TugOwar - pic? what pic? So who told. 68C15 - your right, this is one mean band aid job. Spencra - Controll is over rated. |

MAN! Y'all got RUST up there!!! Man whatta beast! Down hea' in Arizona, I bought a 72 sub for parts. It came from Michigan and the pillar between the passenger's front and rear doors was attached to: NUTHIN'! I used about a case of Liquid Wrench up on that truck to get the disc spindles, posi rear, crossmember etc. out of it for my shortie, till I got smart and got out the GAS-wrench.
Good save, VT Blazer! Hey, I drove my AZ Toy FJ60 to Burlington and spent the summer on Lake Champlain boating in 1999. The yard mechanics were droolin' all over that rust free TBI 350 powered Land Cruiser! Loved Lake Champlain! Keep us posted and pictured! Hunter

Beautiful Kurt. I love the white with lower black trim look. It's amazing how much different it looks with a coat of paint.
GO KURT GO!

I scrolled down and read the posts while I was waiting for the pics. Someone said redneck. I have now looked at the pics and that is not redneck, that great. Redneck is when you use the box of vintage liscense plates I could send you.
How many of us have bought a car and pulled up the carpet to find an old plate screwed over the trans hump? I have had several. Even had one with a plate screwed on the body for a patch. That's redneck. I have enough plates to do both quarters on that Burb. You couldn't get pulled over for lack of a plate that way. LOL Looking good too. Oh, and Merry Christmas.

Looks good Kurt. I know how it goes. There is no perfect vehicle. You can never have too many. The problem up here is as soon as you get them lookin real pretty you can only bring yourself to drive them for 5 months of the year.

You are the man Kurt. What kind of paint job did you do? Did you sand and prime? How many coats of paint and/or clear?
I'm just curious because I am toying with the idea of chopping the roof and rear of the cab off of the 79 and make it a convertible if I don't sell it soon. I also want to drop it and throw a tonneau on it. I also want to paint it but I don't want to go expensive or spend lots of time on it. I appreciate any ideas that you have to offer. Thanks, Larry
