New To Board
I have been watching this board for a long time and have got alot of good info, thanks. My K5 is a 72 i use it as a daily driver, hunting, fishing and hauling the dog.
IF I could get some opinions on an engine swap. It curently has a 305 in it from late model Chevell 79 model I think. It is very tired and cant pull it'self out of a minor mud hole. I want to put in a new crate motor. Last edited by WBORO'DAVE; 11-17-2004 at 04:52 PM. Reason: ADD IMAGES, AGAIN |

Welcome to the board. Post some pictures of your truck and fill out your location when you get a chance.
How much are you looking to spend on a crate motor? My buddy put the "base" model in his '66 3/4 4x4 and he is extremely happy with it. It would be great for a daily driver and they start around $1375.00 for a long block with tin from GM.

Welcome from Kentucky. There are a ton of choices when it comes to crate motors. I've got a friend with the base crate 350 and he wouldn't trade it for anything. Heres a link with some choices, good luck.

I tried to help you out but your links didn't work for me. you need to have immediately after. Hope that helps.

Welcome, I have a base 350 crate in mine, and I'm very happy with it, which I use for a daily driver, and a limo service for my dogs.

Thanks For The Welcomes
I hale from Walterboro, SC in what we call the low country (swamps)
I'm trying to decide if it would be worth it to spend the extra $3-4k for a 350+ hp GM crate or get a stock GM crate. I wouldn't have to sell my Hharley Sportster if i go with the stock motor. |

Been running a base model GM crate 350 for 4 years and am very satisfied. Made in Mexico, came with a 3 year 50K mile warranty. Can't rebuild one for the price. Runs stong with some minor tweeking or get an extra 30-40hp by swapping over to vortec heads/intake. Hard to beat for the money. Try the prices from Pace auto, jeggs, summit, etc. Shop around then take the best price to you local Chevy dealer to see if they would match the deal. Should be able to get one for around $1300-1350. If you buy out of state and pick it up you might be able to beat out the sales tax as well!!

started asking around at work and getting opinions, and a frend of a friend had just pulled out of his 80 k10 a rebuilt and modified for torque 350 to put in a 454 he had built only 1000 mi on it. Best part only $300, has everything on it headers to carb.

I have the crate and like it though I think I might put some vortec heads on it this winter. But it is a four-bolt main so I should like a little more power
