guages
I need to do some work to my dash and would like to know if the pointers on the guages press on or what? I am trying to change to white to see how it looks but need the pointers off without breaking them or getting out of position .

When I painted mine white, I turned the needle all the way to one side and painted, then the needle to the other side and painted the remaining side. Then, to paint the needle it's self, I placed a thick piece of paper (3X5 card) eiyh a slip so it would cover the whole guage, and painted the needle with spray paint. With white guages, a lighter color looks better on the needle...like chevy engine orange.

The gas and speedo just pop off,but be careful not to break the shaft they go on. I use a tool I made that has a split in the middle so you get even pressure on the needle.

If you pull the gas gauge needle, keep in mind that it does not zero out like the temp gauge. If you don't put it back on the stem where it came off, the gauge reading will be off. Longhorn's idea is a good one.

Yeah Jim, that is exactly why i do it like that.
Here is the outcome on one of mine. I stil need a white tach, and I like the aftermarket ones on the bottom way more than I did the stock questionable guages. A slightly better pic, and with the darker needles. |

I use an old dinner fork to get them off.

I went ahead and did the sticker thing and painted my needles black with a tiny brush. Looks fine (except the blank spots). I might change it later, but i kinda like this look with some colored bulbs behind it all.
