Where to order parts from in Saskatchewan?
I live in Saskatchewan Canada, and when I restore/hotrod my old 72, I am going to need quite a selection of interior parts. I like the selection that MotherTruckers and LMC have, and their prices are good too, but I'm not so sure about getting products shipped here from the USA. I redid my corvette a year ago and got a whole interior shipped here from atlanta, and they didn't charge me too much at the border (just the PST). Then just a couple weeks ago I get an intake here from texas, and they absolutely slayed me at the border (48 bucks duty!!). If the cost has gone up that much, I'd rather buy the big stuff like sheet metal and whatnot from a place this side of the border if at all possible, unless of course there is a way around duty, brokerage, etc etc. Anyone know of any really good places with reasonable pricing? All the small stuff can still come across the border, but the big stuff I'm having second thoughts on.

I have used Scott's Super Trucks a few times and been happy. They will send COD, and there is only one tax coming from Alberta, but they are sometimes more expensive than others. I have used RPM in Saskatoon but had some problems with service and parts quality many times. There is also iron Chief in northern Alberta, heard they are good too. If getting parts from the States is a pain, I would use Scotts, since they are relatively close to your location. Also, do not be afraid to buy good used stuff off people here... I have not had any problems yet

As a former shipper/ reciever anytime someonelse will do the paper work that's worth money. Scotts has lots of parts, in Canadian dollars. You can get a free cataloge on line. The guys at Tiger can order you parts too. As for used if you got a list send it to me. Networking is more than a buzz word for corporate cats. Spread the word and you never know what people will find for you. Also if you Join our cheesy truck Club ( Tailgaterz .com) we got a bit of a discount with some of our sponsors ( Scotts & Tiger Automotive)

Anything I get that has to come UPS I tell the shipper to identify on the package that the receiver (Myself) will clear customs. Even if they forget..the shipper that is....let UPS know you'll clear your own package. You should have a tracking number and then you can follow where it is in the stages in getting it to you.
Mind you sometimes the travel to get to a customs center and back and forth to UPS can be a hassle. But bigger stuff I'll do..they (UPS)cant deliver to me anyway as I'm rural. First I go to UPS paper work center to get customs clearance paper work..in my case it's in a different building a few blocks away from the UPS parcel depot center. I pay the taxes and duties if necessary to Canada Customs center ( which is few miles trip) then take the cleared paper work back to UPS Parcel Depot and get my parcel. I spend a like 3 hours at best running around...and the office open hours of Customs is not like UPS. Can be done though. I'd look at that last paper work you got.. is it duties or brokerage fees that are out of line...if its brokerage fees of any sort that what you avoid doing the paper work yourself. Duties are there on new parts..and typically higher if the parts are made (off shore) outside of the Free trade area.....lol....(sarcasim) Like there is free trade.

Mopac has a good selection of performance parts that can't be brought across the border any cheaper. Hotrods.ca in Airdrie advertises classic truck and car parts but nothing on their web-site yet. I have used Scott's in Penhold, too, with good results, they have a good in-stock supply. The last time I ordered a big purchase, I got it from GMC Paul's. I had it shipped to Sweet Grass, MN and picked it up myself. I saved just under a grand on a 4g purchase compared to truck parts available in Canada. My brother-in-law just ordered a Ram-Jet 502 to Sweet Grass and will be saving about 2gs on the 10 g purchase. This isn't practicle if you are not near the border, though.

Also, I'm sure you know, never, ever, ever get anything shipped UPS. They really rape you with brokerage charges.

UPS and FedEx both.
Ship USPS, they suck for getting stuff here on time, but getting it a bit faster isn't worth the extra 150 + some brokerage fees can run you up.

I use Scott's mostly. He is great to deal with. May even trade some stuff with you if you have extra pieces.
I have also used RPM in Saskatoon for my '71 SS and have had no problems. Reid

I'll have to check into that Scott's place. I've heard a few good things about him. RPM will not get my business. I tried to deal there when I was restoring my vette, and he wanted about double (or more) than anyone else. I'll be sure to check into Iron Cheif too.
As for UPS, I checked my last package that I got shipping-raped on, and that's how it was shipped. That explains it. I usually tell guys not too, but now I remember that this guy lived close to the UPS office and it was easier to do it that way. Oh well, live and learn I guess. Now I just have to do some price comparing and see where to deal. Thanks everyone!

Scott usually has most parts in stock, so common things can be at your door in a couple of days.
Go to the website, you can order a catalog for free. http://www.scottssupertrucks.com/

Thanks REPO1! If Scott's prices are in Canadian dollars, then he is right in line with some of the American places. I think I'll have to get one of his catalogues though, as his website has no pictures for me to make sure I know what I'm getting.

Use Bills Truck shop, www.billstruckshop.com. He is about 45 minutes outside of Toronto. and get Canpar to ship it to you. I use him all the time when I buy stock parts and interior parts for my truck!

Get It Mailed
If you get something from the USA get them to mail it as opposed to UPS, Fed Ex et all. Canada Post now charges a flat 8.00 fee (up until a month ago it was 5.00, nice bump eh, 60%) for handling and collecting the PST/GST. You mentioned LMC out of Kansas. I wanted to order something small for about 20.00US and told them I wanted it mailed and they said no their flat shipping fee was about $12..00 and they'd UPS it. I cancelled the order. My advise is no mater where you order fr0om ask lots of questions and don't ever get anything via UPS, FED EX, Purolater etc.
