Looking for a tranny leak it looks like it might be coming from a connection on the passenger side just under cooler lines but above the dipstick. I think is is the detent cable but not sure.

One what is this conection two could it leak fluid?

If it is between the dipstick and the tranny lines it is probably the detent/kick down cable. And yes, it can leak.

Any idea how to stop the leak Maybe a gasket or do I need a whole new cable?

So do I just unbolt the cable and yank it out then take off the o-ring and replace it and rebolt it? Do I need to drain any tranny fluid or will none leak out? Also were can I get A new oring local parts storE?

To get the cable out there is one bolt that holds it in and then you can lift it out of the hole and unhook the linkage. I don't know for sure, but you may have to unhook it from your carb linkage and take the cable out of the bracket up near the carb also. A new cable is $12.99 at AutoZone. Many hardware stores carry an assortment of o-rings if you want to match it up.

Cool so it sounds pretty easy. But no coolant will leak out when I remove the cable will it?

Coolant won't leak out but transmission fluid might depending on the level. It's been a while since I replaced one and I can't remember for sure. Just have a drain pan ready for if it does.

Also looking in the haynes manual would this be called the tv cable?

I got a new detent cable as mine was very old my new one has no oring on it or a place for an oring? Any thoughts I have it all apart now?

Yeah man I did one of these on my 86 silverado. When I did mine it did not come with an O ring either. But neither did the one that came out of the tranny. I replaced the old with the new and everything worked like a charm...Later Mike
