Those who cut dash for a CD player, I have questions.
I have seen in quite a few pics that alot of people on here have cut the dash to install an aftermarket CD player.
Question I have is do you regret it now? Do you wish you hadn't cut it? That is what I am trying to decide right now. The original part of me want to leave it as is, and install a factory radio in there, then use a CD changer. But the more modern me want to cut it and install an up-to-date CD player. I have also thought about making a custom little box to install the CD player in the glove box instead. What are your guys opinions? Any pics of custom setups? My advice dont cut it if you even think their might be a possibility youd regret it someday.I regreted doing it to a 70i had,then i said screw it and did it to the doors to,no turning back now,if you do,but the hole smaller,and file the rest to the size-be a bummer for the whole to be a little to big.and take your time,and dont use a torch or something.

I think I might look into building a small enclosure out of fiberglass to put into the glove box first, and see how that goes. Reid

I cut mine, but wish I hadn't, I really don't care, though, because I'm in the process of changing cabs and am going to leave the original radio in the dash just for looks and make a bracket under the dash out of some heavy alluminum angle stock, polish it and cut that for the radio, I think it'll look pretty nice and still leave the stock radio.

Are you really worried about keeping it original? I think it's better having the cd in the dash. Who wants to open the glove box whenever you want to change? How many people are really going to be bothered by it? Wouldnt be that hard to fix anyway. Cut the radio area out of a rusted cab and weld it in if you want stock again. Welder will fix most anything on these trucks.

I cut mine and don't regret it. I built my truck for me! It looks clean as the factoy radio and I like it. Unless your going for originality and are showing your truck Then I say do what YOU like.

I dont think its that big of a deal. If you want to cut it then cut it, dont worry about what other people say or do. Besides, do you actually see yourself putting in an old original am radio....... yeah didnt think so.

Cut it who really cares ? your truck will never be original anyway ! Make the truck for you the way you want it to look . But one thing I would never do is cut holes in the doors.

if you really think you might regret it, cut carefully and save the piece in case you ever change your mind and want to go back to the original configuration. will require a little work, but at least you can go back.

I hesitated on the first longhorn, then it was the first thing I did on the GMC...and I love it.

Cut it. If you are really worried you'll regret it later just pick up a good dash now and have it around in case you ever need it. It's not that hard to swap out a dash once the windshied is out.

Cut it!If you want it org. go buy a 2002 model less work (heehee). You can always replace it later if you want it back the way it was.

Hey I got an AM Radio and love it, whats wrong with them?

I put mine in the glove box. Its a pain to switch stations or CD but I did it to keep the crooks outta it for the stereo.

Mine was cut when I bought it. Wish it hadn't been. To me the ideal setup is a stock AM radio in the dash, with factory buckets and the factory center console between the seats with a CD player in the console with a remote. My CD player In my dash now has a remote. Once you have one you will never go back to having to reach to the dash again!! It is sweet! Just my opinion. Darren

If a person doesn't want to cut their dash but wants modern sound then go check out custom auto sound they make am/fm /tape and cd changers to fit our trucks. wes carry's these and so does pickmup{frank}i'm not sure if paul does or not.they even make a neat little cordless radio box mounts under the seat and the control box is mounted under the dash or glove box and you keep the orignal radio for looks. hope this helps

Cut the sucker! It's just a truck. These things are everywhere... so there is no shortage of patch panels if you ever want it back to original. I used to have mine in the glove box and it was a pain in the A$$. If you are restoring it back to original to put in shows, then don't cut it, but if not, build it so you can enjoy it.

Before you deside on a glove box installl, sit in your truck with your seatbelt on, and try to open your glove box.

Cut it...but I would recommend against the doors. My dad cut my doors (he did a good job, too) but this was before you could get the kickpanel speakers...if I had the choice now, I'd do kickpanels in a heartbeat. There's a lot of bass vibrations you get when you cut the doors, I think...
Hopefully, though, running an 8" sub or two under the seat and putting bass bandpasses on the 6.5" speakers in the door will cut down on that a lot. ------------------ Project 1970 - soon to be seen at http://milhouse.treylis.org:81/
