71-71 BB stand differences? - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Hi. I am looking at a few sets of BB stands f/s on the board and noticed the 71 and 72 are different. I guess I am asking why the difference? What was it in 1972 that made GM make new stands? Would like to know before I buy any. Thanks.

I'm no expert, but I believe I read it was to lower the engine in the frame and it also changed the way the pads mounted to the engine itself.

I bought the 72 mounts for my 71.

Here are two pictures comparing them.

They are completely different. The 72 style is very similar to the 73-87 style mount. The earlier style is very similar to the small block mount, but it's built different for BBC exhaust manifold clearance.

I bought the 72 mounts for my 71. __________________ 1971 C10 Stepside. LSx 6.0 with BTR Stage IV, Speed Engineering Headers, 4L80e transmission w/3200 Circle-D Stall. 3.73. Posi. Purchased this truck when I was 17. I started the rebuild (or take apart) in 1993. I have drug it around all over the country in pieces. Finally back on the road in 2021. "I can't complain, but sometimes I still do. Life's been good to me so far."
