More on replacement seats
I've been looking locally for quite a while for late model seats. I'm finding them to be quite expensive. Best price so far is $500 for seats in so-so condition. Would cost another $300 to have them recovered. I've been looking at new aftermarket seats. 40-20-40 starting at that same $500 and going up from there depending on options. Most will ship for $85 - $100. Anyone have experience with some of the aftermarket brands? What should I watch for or stay away from?

Seats
I found a set at a local wrecking yard, red 50/50 lowback buckets with a center console, in a 90 model extended cab. I did not buy them as they will have to be recovered and the frames painted. i am getting prices on recovering before I go back. Lokk at this web site for prices of new seats.

Try looking on ebay for some 99 and up buckets. They usually run around 200-300.

I think I may be able to pick up the 90 seats for less than 50 each. Yours sure look good. Is the shifter on an automatic if so is it a 700R4, and what brand.

I have a local AutoWorld retailer that found a line of aftermarket seats for my burbs that bolt to the oem subframe. No need for drilling, fabrication, etc. since it bolts right to the subframe that already uses the oem, reinforced captive nuts. The seats were bench buckets with a smaller center seat. Nothing real fancy about the design. Vinyl and/or velour, IIRC. I think the center seat's back folds down to make a console, but I'm not sure. I'm going off memory from 2 yrs ago. He wanted about $400 for the seat. I could ask him for the brand name and model, if you want.

Hey Yellow69, those are the exact seats I have in my truck at the time being. They're ok if you're a shorter person. I'm 6' and they're not a comfortable ride for me, I feel all cramped up. Although, that was an extremely good buy though. I've seen just the jump seat go for that price.

I know what you mean, I went to a yard and they wanted 350 for a crappy 94 seat. They had this sweet pimped out 04 dodge truck, totaled of course, with full leather, power, heated seat....they wanted 1200 for the seat....NO JOKE!!!

Portland swap meet is my annual trek to pray to the car gods. I looked pretty carefully last year but the only thing close was a 2nd row seat. Seems the odds are pretty low on finding a close color match. I might wait until April before I make a final decision though
The thing I like about the after market seats is that they will bolt to the OEM subframe. There was a post a while back that discussed the safety issues of drilling new holes and the possibility of un-reinforced floor boards collapsing. The only reason I’m really looking is because I was rear ended 2 years ago. Other car was totaled, my 71 only had about $1,200 in damage. My medical bills were over $10k and my neck still hurts. I never want to go through that ordeal again so yes, safety is a big issue for me. Besides, my wife and kids occasionally ride with me. At any rate I was just wondering if anyone had experience with some of the after market companies before I lay down my hard earned money. |

Even if they bolt to the OEM subframe you can have the floorboard rip out if you are using seatbelts that are integrated to the seat. If you use the original lapbelt then you would be good. hth

Plan is good OE seats or aftermarket. Will be putting in three point belts, not integrated. Was going to ask who makes good 3 point belts in a later post.

My mistake. Since you've already found some aftermarket seats that bolt to the OEM seat frame, how 'bout passing on your finds? Let us know the aftermarket seat brand names. You might stir up some posts from members who recognise the brand name.
And I might learn of another seat brand I could source.

I got my 3 point belts at the LA Roadster show from a vendor there. When I installed them, the driver's seat wouldn't retract well. I called him and he said, "You don't still have the gas tank in the cab, do you?" I did at the time. Since I switched out the tank, they are ok. Juliano's carries the belts, too.

Buckets and Console
I have a set of buckets with the console from a wrecked 96 Silverado Z71. They are the grey tweedy color that were on many trucks of that vintage in excellent shape with no rips or tears. I'd attach pics but i've got them in the back of my truck in storage for the winter but can probably get you pics if you are really interested. I want 400.00 US for them and of couse you'd have to pay the shipping from here in Saskatchewan which shouldn't be too expensive.

Already Gone did you have them mounted in a 67-72 truck? If so, how did you fit (legroom etc..). I was going to have my factory seat redone in Saskatoon but might consider yours if it would work well in my truck.

They Are Loose
Heavy D, the seats are not in the truck yet they are sitting in the box. I was going to install them this spring but have decided to sell them and get what I really want is a set of seats with the attached shoulder belts from a 2000 to 2005 Silverado Extended cab, and wreckers around here want a 1000.00 for them. You realize that 400.00 US is 500.00CDN, but there would be no shipping charge as we live so close together.
