Replacing gas tanks

Has anyone here done this? I'm thinking pulling the bed off would be a good idea. What all is involved with that? I wound up ripping two tanks out of an 86 to go in the 85 but wasnt to conserned about the removal job. Thanks much.

There would be 8 bolts holding the bed to the frame. Careful of the filler neck when you remove the bed. Make sure you unscrew that as well. Get a couple of guys lift it right off.

as long as you got the tanks off another truck you shouldnt have a problem lining up the tanks. the problem is when you have to swap out the old tank arms/straps on an existing tank because its hard to tighten up the adjusting nuts on there. if you dropped these off the same kind of truck like a 10 or 20 series ( i think the 30 series is different) you should be able to just throw the new tanks up on a block of wood on a floor jack and raise it to the right height. Ive done this a few times. you should be able to lower it and attach the lines to it and the wiring before ya jack it up. its not a hard job the bolts are 9/16 head if i remember correct. Ive not removed the bed ever to change a tank its not that hard
