Custom Camper Emblems
Does anybody reproduce the GMC "Custom Camper" emblems that mount over the door handles?

I have a set of those, they're still on the doors. I wasn't even sure if they were stock or not, I figured someone thought they were cool and slapped them on there. Sorry to jack the thread, but are custom campers rare? Mine is a 68 GMC with a/c and a fancy, green interior.

GMC didn't have the engine badges. The Custom is a low end option package..Custom Camper was nothing more than HD tires, HD springs OR overload springs, anti sway bar, and that's about it. Nothing too special.

I've always thought the script "Custom" and "Custom Camper" above the door handles looked very cool on these trucks. I was under the inpression that nobody was reproducing them yet tho...which is too bad.

yeah, that's the "Custom Camper" script... I'm pretty sure they aren't being repro'd.... but they do set off the truck if it has that option (even though it's nothing too special).

Golden State Pickup Parts had them, last I checked. The Custom Camper could be a model in it`s self(CustomCamper/20).Pretty basic w/better mechanical upgrades:HD spring/shock,big radiator, bigger mirrors, and aux.harness for camper. What made them even nicer was there were usually other options typically found on them:wood floor, dual batteries,TH400,leaf rear,4.11s,sliding window.Alot were ordered trucks since they were aimed at a specific use. So,even better optioned trucks are not uncommon:big blocks,a/c,buckets,chrome,aux.tank,tool&storage,posi...A"Top-Of-The-Line"truck could also have the CustomCamper pkg(script on door)adding HD mechanics to a truck built for comfort. The"best"thing about CustomCampers is there are many survivors due to the nature of their use. Many original owners kept(or are keeping)them all these years.Using them only occasionally for"camping trips",usually in times of more pleasant weather. These were usually well maintained`cause, you don`t want any problems on your vacation.Basically, these were early RVs.I`ve been a CustomCamper nut a long time for all these reasons."Keep On Campin`"

special K, the big radiator, bigger mirrors, and aux.harness for camper wasn't part of the custom camper. Just springs, tires and shocks.
And the custom camper by model number would be a longhorn. |

Now, are Chevy C/30 fleetside pickups really longhorns? To me, from what I've read so far, the Longhorn is a HD C/20 with the frame and suspension from the C/30. The C/30 just being a C/30... unless those too had the longhorn emblem on the bed? The reason I ask is I'm looking at a GMC 3500 wideside, and it has no custom camper emblems, or evidence of having any (mind you it had been repainted once). It has some camper options on it (HD springs, camper wiring, and camper mirrors), but not the custom camper option, so it wouldn't have the emblems based on option package. So, I would assume that by model #, the GMC custom camper would be the 2500 model with the 3500 frame, and the 3500 being just a 3500, or should it technically have these emblems on it as well? I'm just trying to make some sense in all this, as GMC info isn't all that easy to find.

I can get you part numbers for the mirrors and harness and radator too if you like...my longhorn actually had the harness on it...I threw it away. The aux battery was another common option in a truck purchased to wear a camper on it...but again...a seperate option.

Ya know I'll have to check now. Mines a 72Cheyenne Super Camper Special. I have the dual battery set-up but I do not remember it on the glove box decal.... I allways thought it was part of the custom camper package.
