Question for the "Stroker" guys

I'm getting ready to rebuild my Dana 60 and I'm not sure what ratio to use. I'll mainly be driving around the Phoenix area (it will see plenty of freeway time) and ofcourse some road trips to shows and stuff. I'm running a 383 stroker that should run around 425 horse, 425 ft/lbs with a 700R4. Is 3.73 to low? I see a lot of you guys run 3.08. Do you still have pretty good low end?

3.73 is a good all around gear, I think the 3.08 would be a little tall especially with the 700R4. You might even be able to get away with 4.10's depending on how much freeway time the rig will see. My .02

I've run a 383 / T350 with my 3.07 and I liked it just fine. I'm in the last stages of finishing a 383 (different engine, very mild) with a 200R4, and 3.07. I'm after hwy mileage too, so that will make a difference if you have other needs. Nice thing about the 700R4 or 200R4 is that you can keep it in 3rd gear if you're towing (which you are supposed to do anyway), and then the 3.07 gears will work just fine.

If I can spend some time on the project, I should have an answer in the next 4-6 weeks.

I think the biggest question would be is what size tire are you using, this will determine the final rpm at a given speed. 4.56 in OD=3.32 4.11 in OD=3.0
3.73 in OD=2.72 and 3.54 in OD=2.58. You may consider a 4.56 or a 4.11 ratio for a shot off the line and end up with a decent rpm on the freeway.
