Neutral Safety Switch

Guys,
How do I bypass my neutral safety switch? It is a '69 Burb. I am pretty sure it is the switch because it started to turn over by me moving the gear selector and holding the key in the start position. Is there a way to bypass it, I know how to jump the starter if I need to. I am at work and have a few hours of daylight left...
Thanks,
Chris

Make a jumper out of the same guage wire that runs into both sides of the switch, and run one side into the other. That's pretty much it.

1. Pull the wiring connector off the switch which is located on top of the column under the dash near the firewall.

2. Make a jumper to jump the 2 wires together that lead into that connector. I use spade wiring terminals and a heavy guage wire. In a pinch any conductive metal will work as a jumper.

I looked at the connections before I asked the question and I believe it had two plugs. One was a single wire plug if I remember correctly. Is this only a ground??

One is backup lights. The one you need to jump has a purple wire going to it IIRC

Lets start over. The neutral safety switch on the column should have two connectors on it. One connector is for backup lights. The other is the neutral/safety wiring and one of it's wires should be a heavy guage purple colored one IIRC.

Step 1. It is this neutral safety switch connector that you need to pull off the switch. Leave the backup light connector in place, it is not part of the next step.

Step 2. Jump the 2 wires that run into the neutral safety connector together. This will bypass the switch and make the system "think" you are in park or neutral. Tip:Make sure you are in park or neutral . You can make a jumper, or if you are in need of a quick fix, a paper clip will work . Just jam one end of the jumper into one slot on the connector, jam the other end into the other slot.

My money is on the ignition switch. unplug it, grab a flash light, and look at the terminals and the femail slots on the plug. You'll probably find burned terminals.

I am thinking the ignition switch myself. As you know, I had my neutral safety switched bypassed. I plugged it back in correctly and decided to try starting it with the ignition switch. To my surprise, it started like normal after this and this morning. Any ideas???
