I made the majority of my air/ATF/brake/fuel lines out of stainless steel tubing. When I didn't have a long enough piece of scrap, I bought compression fittings made by Parker and Swagelok and Weatherhead to connect the pieces. In the few places I needed inverted flares, I used unions to hook SS to pre-flared steel lines; otherwise hoseclamps were sufficient for the low pressures.
Even with all of the industry around here, 1/2" SS tube was $2.50/ft and a typical union was at least $20. But I run this stuff every day at work, and peace of mind is invaluable. Did you know it takes upwards of 35,000 psi to rupture 3/8" .035 wall SS tube? ------------------ Just as if I knew what I was doin'

Just so that everyone understands correctly, do not use hose clamps on brake lines.
