203- full time 4wd has a chain and differential inside. Found behind 4spds and TH350s maybe TH400s?
205- part time gear driven, considered one of the best. Found behind all sorts of autos and manuals. Available in 1969? 208- part time chain driven, aluminum case, good but needs a lot of TLC. Has a tailshaft w/ slip joint. Will allow fluid to come out if rear driveshaft removed. Found behind TH700R4s for sure and others. Showed up in the 80s.

Going to replace the flat bed. 1985 K20, 350/400/208 10 bolt and SF 14 bolt. I wonder where I can find some 1 tons. Hmmmmm |

you basically have 4 options...the TH350, TH400, 700R4(4L60E), and 4L80E. Depends on what you are gonna use it for and if you want OD or not.
The NP208 came behind the first 3. The NP241, which is similar to the NP208, came behind the last 3. The NP203 came behind the first two. The NP205 came behind the first two, and it also came behind the 4L80E in '91 one ton 4x4s. However due to the increase in popularity, adapters can be had to match just about any transfer case up to any transmission, but custom stuff is always expensive. Out of these 4 listed, I am partial to the overall strength of the NP205, but again it depends on what you want from the truck. Good luck with your choice.

It depends if you have lockouts on the front end or not. If you want to use a 203, you need to be sure it has been converted to use lockouts. I along with the others prefer the 205, but also like the 208's as well. I think they are easier to work with because they are lighter.
