Spring question
I just brought home a '72 for parts. It has the all the parts that I need to swap my 69 to 5 lug and power disc brakes. I noticed that this truck is slightly lower than mine and I was wondering how to identify stock springs from drop springs. If it does turn out that these are drop springs I would like to trade them for stocks if anyone is interested.

Use the original springs on the 69...sell the 72's springs as one inch lowering springs.
They do settle down over the years, my old GMC had 500 K, and everyone swore the front end had been dropped, but all that had been done up front was the original sagging springs were left in place. |

If they are dropped springs, they are most likely really clean and black like they were painted recently. I have a pair of stock ones that I'll ship to your front door for $50 if you're interested.

Thanks for the responses guys. I am just being lazy I guess. I can do the back ones easily but the fronts I have to pull apart on both crossmembers. Is there a safe way to pull them apart with a spring compressor?

you don't need a spring compressor. They are more for struts than A arm suspentions. Just place a floor jack under the lower a arm, seperate the ball joint, and lower the jack. the spring will just fall out. If you don't feel safe, then run a cahin through it and around the frame or something.
