So, the longhorn has been runnin a while, even movin under it's own power. I've taken it down the road and back....industrial area...not a sole around at night, which is good consedering it was uninsured and unregistered...hll...it wasn't even in my name untill yesterday.
So yesterday, I spend the morning at the BMV, I transfer the old tags from the 69 GMC, and have them put on the longhorn. I convinced the dude that it was a 3/4 ton, so that saved me something like 30 bucks a year. Cool
so after getting a new license, regerstring the truck, and renewing the tags which expire in a couple weeks, I leave the BMV about 120 bucks less than when I entered. Oh well... what can you do?
So this eveing..I pull the 'ole girl in, I start the night like I always do..washed the lincoln...and the poor longhorn looked so sad and nasty, i gave her a bath too. Did a little of this, a little of that..and i said it was time to go beyond the one or two blocks I have taken it.
WOOO HOOOO!!!!!!!
I go to the gas station....spend a butt load of cash...got a few gallons of fuel, then I realized i was hungry and haven't eaten since 5 am....so off to mc d's I go.
Smiling as I drive her. The brakes still need something

the steering is a little sloppy, but that loud pedal is fun...esp afterdriving that gutless lincoln.
I zip over here, zoom over there, then I figure I better get back to the shop, expecting some one here.
So I'm blasting down one of the deserted roads back here by the shop and all of a sudden the windshield is soaked.
I'm like WTF? I look in the rearview mirror saying I don't think I hit a puddle.
Nope, no puddle back there...but an odd lookin dark stripe in the center of the road...and what's that sweet smell?

I pull it in, grab a bucket and toss it under the front of the truck where it's spewing green stuff.

I pop ht ehood, (just cleaned under there too) and EVERYTHING is soaked..new air filter..junk. an hr of detailing...waisted...a heater hose spwaying everything, including my face.(it doesn't burn in your wyes as much as I had expected.)
So, it's first time off the block, and she's puking her guts all over the floor.

Pics to follow later when i get home ion the morning...which i plan on pullin up to the house in the truck.

Oh, Well at least I happened closer to the shop than closed to MC d's Huh. I'm glad to hear You let her off the chain though. All in a days work HUH!

How cool! The first cruise! Too bad about the melt down but it will be an easy fix. Are you planning the first major road trip yet?

They always told me if you have a few problems off the bat,it's gonna be a good truck,so with that in mind Congrats

I bet it was a totally cool feeling to drive it alfter all this time.

At least she wasn't leaking gas....with the prices now a days you would think it was gold..... Congrats...I know the feeling...awesome isn't it?? First time I took my truck down the road the driverside motor mount broke and I watched the motor practically jump outta the engine bay, the hood was off, thank God, and I limped her back home. Second trip out the water pump blew, after that, she was good for 6K miles until the damned tranny blew....Don't buy junkyard trannys unless you really really have to......

Having a heater hose let go is no biggie in the grand scheme of things.

Just hope that's the worst that will happen.

Andy, if your shop is anything like the ones I've worked in, there's heater hose there for the taking. What happened?

alreay fixed...filled with fresh 50/50, new hose, new clamps...the old ones weren't bed...just replaced them...well, ust becouse.

Turns out, the heater hose reached over and tried to fight the alt pully fan. Yeah, the fan kicked it's ass.
I agree....a popped hose is nothing big.
First road trip...you bet.
Depending on the mileage requirements for a road trip in your opinion...I plan on goin to Mike's 9fine69) here real soon to get some pipes welded up (flex pipe and cherry bombs really suck) and also to get my cab out of his yard. 40 or so miles from here.
If that's not enough miles to define road trip...then this one will....spring time...not exactly sure when, but I plan on takin a 3...maybe a 4 day weekend and going to Illinois...Springfield to be exact. Going to hang out at longhornjeff's place. Tj is plannin on being there...we're gonna have to kidnap Jason(racedvl) and have him there....and I'm sure if Jeff doesn't mind, there will be a small board meet at his place...but that's up to him.

I am happier than a pup with 2 peckers....drome her home....and she did flawless.
Like all the rest of you...I find, that at least with this sorry excuse for an exhaust system, it is revvin too high on the freeway...
But that's OK...at least there isn't 4.56 gears back there!

Almost all trucks will have some bugs to work out, the stepside sure does.

Andy it has the white top now it just need the OCHRE paint on the bottom and you will have a real longhorn. Joking but you did say you were coming around to the yellow side of things.

Doing 110 mph at night taking PICS of a speedo while driving. I though cell phones were distracting. LOL, I bet that 425 was wound out. Glad to see it is moving that fast, good job.

Andy, 40 miles quailfies as a road trip in my book! Too far to walk home...LOL! That four day trip really sounds like fun. The Longhorn is really looking pretty good now. At least you have it down to two colors...unlike my kaleidoscope stepside! Are you guys doing your big weekend truck get-together again this summer? That one really sounds like fun!

You know...I haven't mentioned it to Mike, I don't know what his plans are....I hope we do, it was awsome the last two years.

I had honestly given thought to the board wide meet, but it is out of reach for me.

She rode pretty good...better than I had expected. If you hit the speed bumps too hard, you'll get tossed around, but in all reality, considering the fact that it is a one ton with overloads, she rides pretty good.

Randy, thanks for the comment on the wheels...They turned out way better than I had expected. Sand blasted the rims, and painted with some very awsome spray paint. (you'd swear it is powder coat)

ha ha, that looks like my speedo! put her to 80 and still get passed by everything in sight. looks like a little calibration is in your future. glad you got it out on the street
