Laying frame w/ airbag in org. coil location?
Is it possible to lay frame when putting airbags on the trailing arm where the orginal coil was? I would also think you would need at least 2" lowering blocks too, right? Thanks

I am willing to do what it takes, just wanted to see if I could use the stock trailing arms or not.

Hey fastbagged68;
What kind of mods did you have to do to the front-end to get it that low? Just dropped spindles and bags, or is it more involved that this?

To get my front that low I did 2inch crossmember drop, Bill Turner Control arms, 2.5" drop spindles. The lower control arms will get you that low on a small 20" wheel. My shop truck layed frame with out a raised crossmember, only bags, drop spindles and lower control arms

I personaly would not Z your frame. It is not necesary to get these to lay out. Our shop truck layed the body on the ground on 27" tall tires. All it had was lower control arms, bags and 2.5" drop spindle.

but whats the cost of the arms and spindles compared to some spare metal and labor? I dont really see any down sides to z' ing the frame. From what I have seen, lower arms are around $200-400 right? Then spindles are another $200 plus you have to buy the brake kit so theres another $400+. If money was not a option then yes I would go that route. I eventually want to run a 22" rim so that is my main reason for z' ing the frame

Do you have disc brakes now? When you z the frame there is alot of measuring = more place for errors. The cars that I have been in that have been Z'ed were not that strong after. The doors didn't fit for one. You need to run drop spindles to lay out otherwise your truck will probably never get your alignment right. You will have so much camber.

No i still have drums right now. I dont see z' ing that hard. As long as you messure twice and cut once you should be good to go. I dont see how z' ing the frame would affect door alignment unless the frame was twisted. Eventually I will need spindles but right now I should be fine w/ the size tire/rims i have now. With the set-up you have right now, do you think you could lay out the frame (not rockers) w/ 22" rims? Thanks for your input

I know I could lay frame on 22's not a problem. My rear tires is 29.5" tall. I set up my air system to have a little air left in the bag when layed out. The front tires is a 245-40-20. I have room to go lower if I want to. In that pic it is not all the way down. the front is 28inch tall. I'm sure i could find some small 22's tires. 265-35-22. Remeber hood hinges will be a problem when going this low. How many 63-66 have you seen this low with a hood that functioned....not a lift off. Mine will be the right way.

Sounds great! That was another question I was going to ask you about the hood hinges. How is yours set up? Well if I was going to go the route you did, what arms would you recommend? What type of mods did you have to do to the steering and motor mounts w/ the 2" crossmember?

The lower control arms I can fab up. My partner and I are in the process of making a jig for the arms. You don't need the 2inch crossmember drop. Just the 1.25" is fine. My crossmember is higher then my frame rails. Hood hinges I will be doing in a few weeks. Probably are going to use my stock one but will be modify alot. I am finishing up a crossmember for a customer on this board right now. He is planning on running 22's or 23 on his truck. The steering mods are minor, but you could buy a rack an pinion for pretty cheap and make it even easier to do the drop.

i dont understand about the hood hinges? how come they dont work when layed out? also, how low can you go until the hinges dont work? with a 25 inch tall tire up front with drop spindles and bags would i have to mess with the hinges? thanks

If you are laying frame and don't have the correct wheel backspacing your tire will be hitting your hood hinge when layed out. 25 inch tall tire I dont see a problem though.... but don't take my word go out and measure it.

Hey there again fastbagged68!
Wondered if you had any input on my question on this forum about C5 brakes on our rides? Anyone ever do it? Don't know YET how the ECE drop spindles will adapt to C5 brakes.
